Choosing an Attribute
The attribute I chose was virtue. The secular meaning of virtue is “the quality of being morally good… the word virtue comes from the Latin root vir, for man. At first virtue meant manliness or valor, but over time it settled into the sense of moral excellence” (vocabulary.com). “Honesty, courage, compassion, generosity, fidelity, integrity, fairness, self-control, and prudence are all examples of virtues. How does a person develop virtues? Virtues are developed through learning and through practice.” (Manuel Valesquez, et al.). The spiritual meaning of virtue can be found in 2 Peter; “virtue is moral excellence, the essence of which is self-sacrifice, which is also the essence of good works. While virtuous behavior does not guarantee absolute purity and innocence, it shows itself in the attitudes that drive a successfully righteous, Christian walk” ( Bible Tools). I chose this attribute because after reading through all of the Christlike attributes, virtue was the one attribute that stood out to me the most because I think I apply that the least in my day to day life. I think about a lot of things, all the time, every day, no matter what I am doing. I always find myself thinking about even the most random things, but after reading the Christlike attributes, I thought about how I am never trying to bring spiritual reasonings into the thoughts that I have. I mean my thoughts are not ever necessarily bad but, I mostly think secularly and not spiritually. So the reason why I chose virtue for this assignment was to be able to start thinking more spiritually in my everyday thoughts and actions when I am alone and no one is watching. Studying the Attribute
Before getting into this assignment, I didn’t really ever even think of the word virtue. I would just go about my days thinking my thoughts and doing nothing really because I currently don’t have a job. Since I don’t have a job, I spend my days on my phone, mostly on TikTok, and

listening to music. Usually if I see a TikTok that I think is dumb or inappropriate I’ll skip over it and since I did that so much the algorithm brings up videos that are similar to the videos I have liked in the past. With music I usually just pick a playlist on Apple Music and listen to that. I skip songs that I don’t like or have swear words or dirty meanings behind it that I am aware of. I guess a question I had before I started this study was what virtue really was. I always hear things about having good virtue and what not, but I never really put much thought behind the word when it came up. I didn’t really know exactly where to start in my study so I looked up “virtue in the scriptures” on Google and found a website that lists 22 popular Bible verses about virtue. I will only list a few that I liked since I shouldn’t list all 22 in this paper. "Consider carefully what you hear," he continued. "With the measure you use, it will be measured to you – and even more" (Mark 4:24). "You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy" (Hebrews 1:9). “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things” (Phillipians 4:8). I no longer really have any questions about this virtue thanks to my study on the meaning
of virtue both secularly and spiritually, but mostly spiritually in my case. From my study I learned that I need to think more about my virtue in my thoughts and actions when I am alone and around others and now that I better understand the spiritual meaning I will be able to think about it more and apply it to my life.

Connecting to Family Advocacy
Improving this attribute will help me become a better family advocate because having good virtue comes with honesty, compassion, courage, generosity, self control, fairness, and integrity. Having these good virtues as a family advocate will help me be able to help children and families in the best way that I can based on their situation(s). Being able to be honest and compassionate can help me be completely honest with everyone I am involved with as a family advocate and let them know what options they have in a way that might not sound as bad as the situation seems in order to comfort them in a way. Having self control and fairness can help because I will be able to be as fair as I can be with everyone involved and having self control even if I think that the way things go isn't how I think they should go based on my opinion. These good virtues will help me find the best solutions for people in a way where everyone is satisfied, even if I am not completely. These reasons and more are why this attribute is important as a family advocate. Setting Goals My goal is to think about my virtue and the meaning of the word every day while I am doing something or if I am doing nothing at all. Having this goal will help me develop and apply this attribute more frequently up until I can develop this attribute and have it come more effortlessly. I hope to be able to think about my virtue in my thoughts and actions more while I am watching TikToks and listening to music since that is what I do for most of my day. I also hope that I can think of my virtue and apply it more into my school work so that I am more focused on actually learning and not just getting the assignments done and having good grades. I hope to do all of these things while thinking of virtue in both secular and spiritual ways. These

goals can help me become a better person and will not only help be become a better family advocate, but I believe it will help me be better in any career and not for the purpose of a career at all.
