1.
Write a paragraph about the Fermi Paradox
What is the Fermi Paradox? The Fermi Paradox is a theory that asks the
question where are all the aliens throughout the universe. This theory was named after
scientist Enrico Fermi who often stated “If the universe is so big where are all the aliens”.
The universe is roughly 13.7 billion years old which caused scientist Enrico Fermi to
suggest that since the universe is so old it should be overrun with intelligent life or other
named aliens. The lack of communication between planets and the potential for
intelligent civilizations to self-destruct before developing the ability to travel between
them are just a few of the theories put up to try and explain the silence. The Fermi
Paradox invites us to investigate the wonders of the universe and our place within it,
igniting continuing philosophical and scientific debates.

On the Kardashev Scale, identify the power needs in Watts for Type I, II and III
civilizations.
Type I civilization: 10^16 watts
Type II civilization: 10^26 watts
Type III civilization: 10^36 watts
