Political AI's Ethical Considerations: A Promise of Openness and Accountability
“New York Mayor Eric Adams doesn’t speak Spanish. But it sure sounds like he does.” (Fowler, 2023) A recent example of the concerning direction artificial intelligence (AI) has taken in political communications is the employment of AI-generated voices in prepared calls to citizens in different languages by New York Mayor Eric Adams. This approach, made possible by ElevenLabs' AI software, raises moral questions regarding the integrity of democratic processes and the possibility of voter manipulation. This essay examines the circumstances, pinpoints the ethical norm broken, and suggests remedies and preventative actions, all with backing from academic and scriptural sources.
According to the scenario described, Mayor Eric Adams used artificial intelligence (AI) to broadcast recorded messages in Yiddish, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and Urdu. (Fowler, 2023) The mayor was impersonated by the AI-generated voice, giving the impression that he was a native speaker of several languages. This kind of artificial intelligence application calls into question the morality of such technological intrusions and jeopardizes the integrity of political discourse.
Transparency and honesty in political communication are the moral principles at issue here. Enlightened citizens making decisions based on factual information is a basic tenet of democratic administration. Mayor Adams may have deceived citizens by utilizing AI-generated voices without providing notice, which goes against the moral need for openness in political debate.

As a preventative step, it may be necessary to impose disclosure requirements for the use of AI in political communications. This includes making it obvious in campaign materials when AI is being used to create voices or images. (Panditharatne, 2023)
Educating the public and politicians about the potential benefits and hazards of artificial intelligence can help create a more knowledgeable electorate. (Just, 2023) Political organizations
can utilize AI responsibly if they are aware of its ethical ramifications.
Furthermore, it is crucial to create comprehensive and clear regulations pertaining to the use of AI in political communications. These rules ought to specify moral principles, requirements for openness, and sanctions for breaking them. The government can ensure ethical practices in the use of AI-generated content by putting in place regulatory frameworks that set the groundwork for responsible AI practices.
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) to deceive and manipulate in the political landscape raises ethical concerns, and these concerns can be illuminated through the lens of biblical principles. The Bible encourages truthfulness and integrity in communication. Proverbs 12:22 states, "The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy" (New International Version, 2011, Proverbs 12:22). This verse emphasizes the significance of communication that is honest and sincere. The verse makes it very evident that the Lord disapproves of dishonest behavior, while individuals who embody trustworthiness find favor in the eyes of the Lord. This biblical principle has great application in the business world because it
highlights the moral requirement of honesty and dependability.
Applying the golden rule (Matthew 7:12) to political communication, candidates should communicate with the same honesty and transparency they expect from others. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the

Prophets.” (New International Version, 2011
, Matthew 7:12) This verse's application to business
ethics supports the notion that moral behavior should be reciprocal. This would imply that, in the
political context under discussion, politicians utilizing AI should communicate with the same integrity and openness that they demand from others. This ethical precept is broken when AI is used to create messages and content without disclosure.
The article emphasizes how misleading AI-generated information has the potential to negatively impact public confidence in the democratic process. Biblical teachings about the importance of honesty and integrity in communication are consistent with this. The Proverbs passage suggests that the Lord loves honesty, implying that using AI to mislead voters and constituents is contrary to divine precepts.
The biblical emphasis on individual accountability and responsibility can be found in the call for politicians to promise not to use AI for deception. It is in line with the biblical idea of walking in integrity to demand that politicians uphold common values and reveal how they use artificial intelligence.
In the end, this paper raises questions about the moral implications of artificial intelligence in politics by comparing it to biblical teachings about honesty, openness, and the reciprocity of moral behavior. It emphasizes how crucial it is to use AI ethically and responsibly in order to preserve democratic ideals and foster public confidence.
As AI technologies develop, ethical issues become more important to make sure AI is created, implemented, and used in ways that respect human rights, values, and social norms. (Just, 2023) The ethical foundation of democratic processes is called into question by the use of AI in political communication, as demonstrated in Mayor Adams' case. The integrity of political discourse can be protected by preventive measures like disclosure laws and educational

programs in addition to a dedication to moral commitments. Supporting arguments from academic and scriptural viewpoints serves to highlight the significance of integrity and openness in the political sphere and guarantees that AI is a tool for empowerment rather than control.
