Personal Philosophy with Technology
Technology is ever changing and fast moving. Technology of the 1990’s, the era of AOL,
simple websites, and Ask Jeeves has been replaced with Google, Facebook, and elaborate websites. This makes integrating technology into education so important. It will be the future of the students within our care. In biblical times, technology appeared in different ways. God told Noah to build an ark. He gave specific types of wood that was to be used, exact quantities of animals, and gave the blueprints to Noah. This was the form of technology in the Bible. “This is how you are to make it: The ark will be 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. You are to make a roof, finishing
the sides of the ark to within eighteen inches of the roof. You are to put a door in the side of the ark. Make it with lower, middle, and upper decks” (Genesis 6:15-16, CSB). Technology did not always come in the form of computers, internet, or cell phones. I honestly truly enjoy technology. I love how it connects people from all over the world. I
love the doors it has opened in education. No longer do we only have books and papers, but amazing online learning games to stimulate further knowledge. I believe that technology is necessary in education. In my classroom, we use technology for brain breaks, learning games, CVC help, and assessments. These tools have helped me become a better teacher. I can show a video to assist in the lesson I am teaching. Hughes addresses the use of technology in creating possibilities for learning disabilities. She says that students with disabilities in several areas vision, hearing, mental as just a few. Technology has made it possible to help the students grow and learn in a manner that they need (74). This is why I believe it is so important to integrate technology into lessons.

In 1 Corinthians 14:40, Paul was speaking to the churches giving advice on how to handle meetings. He said, “But everything must be done decently and in order” (CSB). While this verse pertains to the church order, we can also use in when talking about the use of technology. Verse 39 says, “Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in [other] languages” (CSB). You may look at this verse and not grasp the link to technology. However, I see it as the other languages could be the technology of Paul’s day. Verse 40 is where I see the true link. Everything must be done right. Technology is an amazing tool, that when used correctly, can take young minds far. Yet it can also be used to tear others down or take them down a path that no one should go down. 1 Kings 6, Solomon builds the temple that King David wanted to build. God told David that he was not the one who would build the temple, but that it would be built. 1 Kings 6: 11-12, “The word of the Lord came to Solomon: "As for this temple you are building-if you walk in My
statutes, execute My ordinances, and keep all My commandments by walking in them, I will fulfill My promise to you, which I made to your father David” (CSB). The verses preceding this passage, show how God revealed the plans to Solomon. It took great precision and time. This was the use of technology of Solomon’s time. We can use technology in our classrooms the same
way. With careful precision and purposeful usage, technology can take our students to places beyond their own imagining.
