Discussion Board Forum 2 Carolyn Faines Liberty University November 5, 2015 Discussion Board Forum 2 The purpose of Case Study 3 is to find a way for Jack to be independently mobile. Jack’s mother, Emily, drops him off at his new daycare provider, Ava. Emily plans to let Jack transition into the daycare by staying “with him for two hours on the first day and about a half hour on the second day” (Ozretich, R., Burt, L., Doescher, S., & Foster, M., 2010). In the process of Jack’s first few weeks, Ava has noticed that Jack sits in one spot while others bring him the things he wants without him moving. This affects his gross motor skills because he doesn’t move about. This is Jack’s main problem. He tricks others into bringing him what he wants or need. A child moving is a major part of their life. Children learn and grow through their movements throughout the day (Wang, J. H., 2004). If Jack doesn’t move he will not experience the joy of
communicating with his peers nor learning by doing things on his own. His caregivers’ idea is to give him more time to do what he needs to do by not responding to his every care or petition for help. Children cannot function properly without mastering fundamental movement skills (FMS) (Hardy, L. L., King, L., Farrell, L., Macniven, R., & Howlett, S., 2010). So, when Jack whines or ask for things and they are given right away, the opportunity for him to grow and be mobile is taken away from him. The plan that was to be put into action was to get Jack to move on his own without others assisting him. In order for this to happen the caregivers must take action and not give in to his whining and cuteness. To increase Jack’s physical activity of moving on his own he must be encouraged to move maybe by enticing him with songs or toys that he may want. On the other side of this problem, Jack needs to know that physical activity needs to be a part of his life on a regular bases. In researching, about 16% of deaths are due to physical inactivity (Miller, S. C., 2011). Luke 5:31 says, “Jesus answered them, ‘Healthy people don’t need a doctor. It is the sick who need a doctor’.” This scripture can be looked at in the positive sense that moving is good for the body as well as the soul. In the end, the caregivers plan to entice Jack to move worked. The things he wanted or needed were put so that he could see them and reach them. References Hardy, L.
