Discussion Board Forum 7
This week the discussion begins with Dante’s family being concerned with his schooling because he doesn’t do homework. They feel that even though he is doing better in school, that they find it hard to believe that he is doing so well in school compared to his behavior the previous year (Ozretich, Burt, Doescher, & Foster, 2010). What Dr. A does is explain to them the
teaching methods that they use in the lower grades. She than sets up a time for them to visit Dante in the classroom so that they can see what it is that has brought him so far along in his schooling. Parents need to see exactly what it is that teachers do on a daily bases so that they won’t judge them so harshly. Many think that a teacher’s job is easy due to the fact that they went to school for it, but what they need to realize is that every child is different and a teacher is taught how to teach children in general. It is the teacher’s responsibility to get to know each child
individually and found a way that they can connect to that child so that they can be taught. As in Exodus 18 concerning Moses and the people, he knew he was there to help them in any way that he could. Exodus 18:20 states, “You should tell them the laws and teachings. Tell them the right way to live and what they should do.” (ICB) In the end, Mr. and Mrs. Castillo were very impressed with the classroom activities. It seemed that their youngest daughter enjoyed the lessons as well. The next discussion is concerning William, a little boy who needs extra help with his writing, and Nashawna, a little girl that goes above and beyond what is asked of her to do. The
class is doing a project on animals of the ocean. They are placed in groups and given the instructions step by step. Williams only concern is his not being able to spell very well. What he does is draw and then gets his classmates to help him with the words. His classmates help him because they understand what he is going through. Proverbs 15:22 says, “Plans fail without good
advice. But plans succeed when you get advice from many others.” (ICB) There’s nothing like friends who have your back. One of Williams’s classmates tried to tease him because he had difficulty spelling but Nashawna put the child in his place. Nashawna, on the other hand, problem is that she has so much information for the project that she can’t decide what to use. In the end, Nashawna and Williams were the last ones to finish due to their dilemmas. Frank, the class teacher, gave them extra time because he already knew of this. This is the reason that a teacher needs to know each student so that they will be given an equal opportunity to learn. As discussed in other lessons, children learn at a different pace, but the key word is that they ‘learn’.
