2 Introduction People always wonder what it means to live a live for God. How does someone achieve this? Where do they start? Is God real? Questions like these have been asked since the beginning of time when Jesus still walked the earth. When someone is a Christian it is very important to make sure you are using the bible as a teaching tool in your everyday life. This is true with not just your life, but with everyone you know or a stranger you meet in the store. If you have kids it is very important to instill God into them. As a teacher we might encounter other religions, but it is important that we still let God shine through us, so that our students can see him. This means the way we act, teach, and how we care for our students. As Christians we have to live as examples of God and his word to make sure that we spread his good word to those around us in our life. A teacher’s worldview and education go together. As a Christian, it is our job to make sure that when we teach we also teach God and his word. To be able to do that we must study and learn his word so we can properly represent and teach his truth. Having a Christian philosophy in school is very important to me once I start teaching. I currently work in the school system, and I try to share my knowledge of God with my students and show that who God is and what it means to live by the word of God. “What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:9). “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go” (Psalms 32:8). 3 A worldview is the framework from which we view reality and make sense of life and the world (Account, 2006). The bible too has a worldview. Because it is God’s revelation of himself, the Bible gives us insight into God’s way of seeing things (Smith, 2015, p.1). When you have a biblical worldview you believe that the only reason you exist is to serve and love God. To have a biblical worldview you live a life based on God. Everything you do represents him through your actions. You believe that everything in the Bible is the truth. When you have this worldview then you believe that God is the standard that you must measure everything with. Having a biblical worldview means that you understand that we are all children of God and that we have a duty to help and protect each other. Seeking out God’s will is important when it comes to having biblical worldview. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2). When it comes to humans it can be hard to have a full biblical worldview. We are surrounded by media that constantly shows us a way of life that is not biblical. Our worldview is very influenced by what and who we associate and surround ourselves with. But if we learn, trust, and apply God’s word into everything we do in life, then we can start to have and develop a biblical or Christian worldview. When you have a biblical worldview you show joy and compassion through the image of God. You must understand the importance of his word and how to live by his word. “And whatever you do, in the word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:17). 4 A philosophy is the way one approaches a method of understanding a topic and how they feel is the best way to live or teach that topic. When talking about education the Bible talks about the idea that spiritual and moral guidance of those who believe and how that in turns effects teaching and guiding students. Christian philosophy of education uses an enormous amount of knowledge and teaching of God and his word in the curriculum of the students. Christian education, first of all, endeavors to bring home to our young Christians that a life as God would have it cannot issue forth from their heart as it is by nature (Lawrenz, 1958). A Christian philosophy of education contains all areas of education. This includes basic core subjects and character building. In this philosophy of education students and teachers are expected to uphold God’s world with everything they do inside the school and out in the community. This is a philosophy of teaching where you apply your biblical worldview to your teaching. Having a Christian philosophy in education means that you believe God’s word and that it is important to teach the children about him. The content of Christian education must include truth regarding the nature of God, man, and the creation (“Philosophy of Christian Education”). “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of scripture, to exhortation, to teaching (1 Timothy 4:13). Implication for Educational Practice A biblical worldview and philosophy have a big impact for how you apply Christianity to education. Your worldview can be applied into your teaching and how you as a teacher run your classroom. These can be represented as rules for your classroom. For example, a few of your rules could go along with the ten commandments. No lying, cheating, stealing and so forth. This could include an essay assignment on how to succeed in school by being truthful and keeping your integrity. Being there for your students and making them feel loved and appreciated and letting them know that they are worthy no matter where they come from is an important part of bringing a Christian philosophy into the classroom. As teacher we do not know what every child goes through once they walk out of our classroom door. “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing (1 Thessalonians 5:11). Conclusion Having a biblical worldview is important. This is because it is important to live our lives for God and to share is word with everyone we encounter. It is important to show kindness and love. Taking your biblical worldview and implanting it into your classroom is essential in raising children, so that maybe they will find God because of you and live a life through God and share his message with the world. It is important that we teach children to treat one as they wish to be treated. “And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them” (Luke 6:31). “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).
