Session 1 What is World Views Kristel A. Brewer Colorado Christian University PHL-205A-25010-SP24 Nate Gustafson February 25, 2024
What is a worldview? According to the Truth Project (2007), a worldview is "how we look at the world around us." A worldview is how individuals view the world from a philosophical point of view. Everyone has a worldview that helps them understand what life is. This paper will discuss the ten ways I view the world in various categories. Theology: Who is God? God is the supreme being, creator, and principal of the Christian faith. As Myers & Noebel states, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth." God is often known as the all-powerful, all-knowing, all-good, and all-loving. God is the eternal and necessary existence of the Christian faith.” (Myers & Noebel 2015) Myers also mentions that theologians say understanding "God's nature and character is key to figuring out what is most important in life." God is known as the redeemer and creator of humanity emphasize that "the evidence compels us to believe in the existence of a personal and holy God, a designed universe, and an earth prepared for human life."(Myers & Noebel 2015) Philosophy: What is the love of wisdom? As Myers & Noebel explains, "When you put "Philo" and "Sophia" together, you get "love of wisdom." Love of wisdom to me is the love of learning and being wise. As a Christian believer and follower of Jesus Christ, my love for wisdom relies heavily on the Holy Scriptures. I follow His teachings and live as He lived. As Myers and Noebel reiterates, "Christianity says we know things because they have been ordered such that our senses can perceive them. There are also moments of doubt." (Myers & Noebel 2015) support the idea that "we can contemplate what is shown to us by our Knowing Receiver." However, because God is called the "Perfect One" who created everything, His wisdom is truth. Ethics: What is the good life? 3 According to Myers & Noebel,” a good life is "a life that is good."(Myers & Noebel 215) We use the word "good" to confirm moral approval. For example, when we say someone is living a good life, we are stating that they are a good person
with other positive qualities. Those who experience the good life practice essential virtues like spending time with family and friends, work, or voluntary activities instead of personal gains. Biology: What does the natural world tell us about creation? As Christians, we believe that God made the natural world. Nature is an example of the loving relationship God has with us. As Myers & Noebel: explains, when "we can figure out what makes something alive, then we can perhaps better understand our aliveness." (Myers & Noebel (2015) All creations exist because of God. We should care for nature as it is sacred. Psychology: What makes a human being a person? Due to our complex biological makeup and our intuitive knowledge, we are remarkable creatures. We have receptors that give us sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. Furthermore, we have a soul and have faults. Myers & Noebel emphasizes "understanding human beings as possessing both bodies and souls, even though we are sinful, imperfect, and in need of a Savior." (Myers & Noebel 2015) Sociology: How should we live in a community? When living in a community, sharing your space and coordinating your time and habits with those around you is fundamental. Remaining open and honest allows reflection, lessons, and understanding. As Myers & Noebel best explains, "To understand how we can live together in a community, we ought to have some insight into various cultures, languages, religious beliefs, and historical challenges." Myers & Noebel (2015) Law: What constitutes a just law? A proper law is an artificial code that deals with the moral law or the law of God. Myers & Noebel states, "To live together in an orderly way, we need laws we all agree to follow." Myers & Noebel (2015) A just law must be fair, respectful, and mindful of the various statuses of a community.

Politics: In whom should power rest? As a Christian, power should rest in the hands of the Christian community. As Myers & Noebel explains, "politics means the rule of a city." without the power of God, there is no effective change for consequences. Christianity is more than just a religion of power; it is a way of life. (Myers & Noebel (2015) Economics: How should a society be productive? A productive member of society contributes to their community. One can be a productive member of society through working, volunteering, and giving to others. Being productive can also mean performing services at a cost. As Myers & Noebel states, "We use means of exchange called money." Money signifies that we have reached an agreement relative to the value of work. (Myers & Noebel 2015) History: How can the past help future human flourishing? Myers & Noebel explains, "What happened in the past could help us predict what we should do now." . (Myers & Noebel 2015) For humans to flourish, we must understand the past to predict the future better. With history, we can track our origins and learn past behavior patterns. If we can learn and not repeat mistakes, then humans can flourish. In conclusion, a worldview, according to the Truth Project (2007), "helps you make sense of reality." Everyone has a worldview that shapes their mindset, thoughts, and actions. Five worldviews have become the lens or filter through which I understand the world. This paper discussed the ten ways I view the world in various categories.
