1 Should the university be free for all Canadians? Nelson Mandela, one of the most iconic political figures of the 20 th century aptly noted that Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world. This encapsulates the need for the Canadian government to make university education free for all its citizens. It has been argued that University education in Canada is among the cheapest in the world but that is a fallacy. The average cost of education for a four-year program is CA$24,000. This is particularly expensive for students from low-income families majority of from come from minority groups such as indigenous populations. The lack of access to higher education limits the prospects of many of these communities. The Canadian government must make university education free to promote equality as envisioned in the Constitution. The Persuasive method I used is an emotional appeal and the use of facts and figures to emphasise the disparities in the Canadian higher education sector. Should the government place a special tax on fast food? The question of whether the government must place a special tax on fast foods is very controversial and evokes strong opinions from both those who support or oppose it. However, I contend that the government must place a special tax on fast food. One could argue that fast-food restaurants and eateries are some of the biggest employers in Canada. It is important to remember that fast foods are one the biggest causes of the disease burden in Canada. Consumption of fast foods has been linked to obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease. Imposing a special tax on fast foods will increase the prices discourage consumption and encourage people to towards healthier options.
2 The Persuasive method I used is an emotional appeal by highlighting the dangers of fast food consumption.
