Reflection and Synthesis Report Name: Kwadjo Owusu-Ansah Quarshie Week #: 8 Instructions In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your instructor. 1. Did you complete all the assigned readings for the week? [Yes] 2. Article of Faith Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week Response: “We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.” 3. Explanation of Key Events and Scriptures Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several insights as though you are trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria: 1. 200–300 words in length (please include your word count at the bottom of the section). 2. Include at least 3 scripture references . Response:
The first scripture I plan to talk about is "Spiritual gifts are blessings or abilities given by God to His children through the power of the Holy Ghost," I love that Heavenly Father has given every one of us spiritual gifts and I also like the fact that we can have more than one spiritual gift. It mentions that we get spiritual gifts from the power of the Holy Ghost, so this means that for a person to be able to discover their spiritual gift they must have the Holy Ghost dwell in them. Therefore, it is important to get baptized because we all receive the Holy Ghost when we get baptized. The second scripture I will be talking about is "There are those who are entitled to the discernment of all of the gifts because of their priesthood calling". Heavenly Father blessing the priesthood holders with all the spiritual gifts because he has personally chosen them to act on behave of him and pass His message to us here on earth. This is because Heavenly Father knows that they are worthy enough to have all the spiritual gifts. I am so glad that He blessed them we all the spiritual gifts because now the priesthood holders can bless us through Heavenly Father. The last scripture reference is "To develop our gifts, we must find out which gifts we have. We do this by praying and fasting. We should seek after the best gifts”, I chose this scripture because I like how Heavenly Father allows those that do not know their Spiritual gift to find it only by fasting and praying. It is really important to pray to God and ask Him for anything we want or need because He is always listening and so he hears us. He cares so much about us that no matter what we may have done, He continues to bless us as long as we are being genuine. Word Count: 263 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World There are many serious challenges people encounter daily that are consequences of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again. Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own: abortion abuse/bullying addiction depression divorce domestic violence energy/environmental issues
violence gambling genocide homosexuality international terrorism materialism natural disasters pornography unemployment poverty racial strife/hatred religious intolerance/persecution threats to religious liberty same-sex marriage suicide Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrines are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know. Write a response in at least 300-450 words and list your word count at the end of your response. 5. The world problem/issue I chose this week is: Materialism Response: I will be talking about materialism because although materialistic things are nice, they shouldn’t get to the point where a person is obsessed with material things. No one should be obsessed over material things because they are only material things, so they can’t help you achieve anything in life. When we are concerned with the material world, we are easily lured in by the deceitfulness of money, believing that if we only had more of whatever it is we are seeking, we would be happy, pleased, or satisfied. Satan wants us to go after something he knows will never satisfy us to keep us from pursuing the only thing that can satisfy us—God Himself. According to Luke 16:13, we "cannot serve both God and money." We must strive to be content with what we have, and materialism is the polar opposite of that. There are so many downsides of being materialistic, that it affects us mentally. According to what I saw on Google, the more highly people endorsed materialistic values, the more

unpleasant feelings, depression, and anxiety they experienced, the more physical health issues they reported, such as stomachaches and headaches, and the fewer pleasant emotions they experienced and felt content with their life. I agree with this research because I remember wanting a pair of Nike shoes. After all, I saw a lot of people wearing them and thought they looked really good. I was so disappointed that I couldn't afford them because they were so expensive that I began imagining what my life would be like if I were as wealthy as the celebrities, I saw wearing the shoes. This made me feel a little depressed. It is really important to appreciate what we have at the moment because we are all exactly where we are meant to be and not appreciating where we currently are in life is simply telling Heavenly Father that we are not happy with what he has done for us so far.
