Carroll Elizabeth Blair Carroll Dr. Christopher Misiano Intro to Theology 104 09, October 2023 Image of Salvation Essay Since the fall of humanity with Adam and Eve in Genesis 3, we see how sinful humanity is. According to Psalm we are born sinners, Psalm 51:5 says “ Behold, I was brought forth in inequity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.” If we take a look at Romans, it confirms that we are all sinners, Romans 3:23 tells us “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” The only perfect human was Jesus Christ. The sinful nature of humans is the exact reason we need salvation. Through Jesus, we have been offered a gift of salvation. Until this class I never realized that Salvation was made up of so many biblical images. As I read through our book I learned about adoption, conversion, regeneration, redemption, reconciliation, justification, election, sanctification and glorification. I never knew that there was more to the gospel of salvation than just being saved. All these images together create a beautiful image of what salvation truly is. It is such a beautiful thing to be reborn through regeneration, being pardoned from our sins through justification. Definition of Justification Justification is defined in our book with a quote from Westminster Short Catechism “as an act of God’s free grace, wherein He pardoneth all our sins, and accept us as righteous in His sight, only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and received by faith alone.”
Carroll Elizabeth Blair Carroll Dr. Christopher Misiano Intro to Theology 104 09, October 2023 When I looked at the definition of Redemption in our book it states that redemption is “The process by which sinful humans are ‘bought back’ from the bondage of sin into relationship with God through grace by the ‘payment’ of Jesus’ death. Redemption is one of the pictures or metaphors that the New Testament uses to give insights into God’s gracious saving work in Jesus.” When I check on the definition of regeneration in our book it is defined as “Regeneration, or new birth, is an inner re-creating of fallen human nature by the gracious sovereign action of the Holy Spirit (John 3:5–8).” Lastly when I check the definition of Sanctification our book describes it as “A progressive work of God and man that makes us more and more free from sin and like Christ in our actual lives.” I picked Justification as the topic of my essay. As I mentioned earlier, as a southern Baptist I was taught that we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God. That the only way to enter Heaven is through the son. Jesus Christ. In order to enter heaven, I had to repent for my sins and accept the gift of salvation. To do that I had to believe that Jesus was the son of God, that He died for my sins (Romans 5:8), He was buried (Matthew 4:59-60) , rose three days later (Matthew 28:5-6). Baptism was just a profession of my faith and that I had accepted Christ as my Savior.
