2 Week 8 Case Study Advanced Pharmacology In assessing Patrick's condition, I will recommend that he take nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as naproxen or ibuprofen to aid in moderating the ankle sprain. I recommend Patrick's NSAIDs, such as naproxen or ibuprofen, because they are suitable for swelling, decreasing pain and inflammation linked with the sprains and strains (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2020). The other reason I recommend NSAIDs, especially ibuprofen, for the patient is that they have a longer duration of action when contrasted with other NSAIDs and can be accessed over the counter. The other effect of NSAIDs is that they block prostaglandins production, chemicals causing swelling, pain, and fever. Lastly, ibuprofen is effective for Patrick as he can endure and has fewer adverse effects. Moreover, before giving Patrick ibuprofen, I will like to inquire from Patrick if he has any allergies or biases to NSAIDs. I will also inquire if he has any objectivity for taking NSAIDs or any medical illness, such as kidney disease, bleeding disorder, and ulcers, that can impact his capacity to take NSAIDs ( Machado et al.,2021). I will also tell Patrick to take ibuprofen with milk or food since it aids lower the risk of him suffering stomach upset. Also, I will ask him to strictly follow the recommendations I give him, such as taking the drugs as I labeled them. This is in frequency, dosage and the maximum dose he will take daily. In addition, I will educate Patrick on NSAIDs and offer him more information on how NSAIDs interact with other medications like herbal supplements, over-the-counter drugs, and even other prescribed drugs (Rosenthal & Burchum, 2020). Also, I will allow Patrick to ask me any questions regarding using ibuprofen for his ankle sprain and any other general question I could help with. Moreover, I will educate Patrick that he must rest his ankle mostly and avoid waiting until it fully heals and the swelling subsides. Lastly, I would check if Patrick is in so much pain to recommend using scratch to help the swelling subside faster. References
