Introduction The research will focus on the use of technology in nursing. The research shall review information from journal articles. The journal articles were searched and retrieved from Google Scholar and were sorted to select the ones that had stayed within five years since publishing. The Journals cover different aspects of the use of technology in nursing, including patient care, education, research, and communication. The research also explores different barriers to the implementation of technology and the perceptions of nurses toward technology. References The use of technology in nursing de Jong, A., Donelle, L., & Kerr, M. (2020). Nurses’ use of personal smartphone technology in the workplace: scoping review.   JMIR mHealth and uHealth ,   8 (11), e18774 The article explores how nurses use personal smartphones at the workplace for professional and personal purposes. The study involved nurses in different healthcare settings, including primary care, hospitals, social healthcare, homecare organizations, private practices, education, prehospital care, and management. The study established that nurses regularly use personal smartphones to seek information related to patient care. One of the everyday uses of personal smartphones was related to drug references, drug guides, and other drug-related information. Furthermore, the study found that nurses use their smartphones to search for information on diseases and surgical procedures. Moreover, the study established that nurses use smartphones to meet their educational needs. The research also revealed that nurses used their smartphones to communicate with different healthcare professionals. Besides, the study also established that nurses use their smartphones to communicate with patients and their families during home care. The research also revealed several problems associated with the use of smartphones for personal reasons, including distractions, privacy and confidentiality issues, and policy confusion. The source is useful in understanding how nurses rely on smartphone technology for work purposes. Furthermore, the source explains the challenges of nurses using personal smartphones at work. Ozan, Y. D., & Duman, M. (2020). Nurses’ perceptions regarding the use of technological devices in nursing care practices.  International Journal of Caring Sciences 13 (2), 901-908. The study analyzed how nurses perceive the use of technological devices in nursing care practices. The research established that experienced nurses can adapt to the unfavorable effects of technology in intensive care. However, novice nurses are likely to encounter challenges when using when using technology because it is complex and requires competence. Furthermore, the research found that young and novice nurses are likely to develop a negative perception regarding how technology affects nursing care. The negative perceptions about the use of technology are promoted by a lack of clinical guidance, continuing education, and knowledge. The research also established that positive perceptions are likely to emerge as the nurses gain experience. Furthermore, the research concluded that nurses generally view the use of technology as saving time and contributing to the retention of the workforce. In this research, most nurses acknowledged the challenges of mastering technological devices, citing difficulty and time consumption. However, they emphasized that once mastered, these devices contribute to the prevention of work hours and labor force loss. The source is helpful in explaining some of
the issues that nurses face when using technology and can be used to develop solutions that nurses face when using technology. Singh, F., & Masango, T. (2020). Information technology in nursing education: perspectives of student nurses.   The Open Nursing Journal ,   14 (1). The study analyzed student nurses' perspectives regarding IT use in nursing education. The research established that nursing students frequently utilized IT for networking and communication. The nursing students also used the internet and other IT resources for research, preparing, and delivering assignments. Furthermore, the study established that nursing students frequently relied on medical journals and medical applications in their studies. The research also noted that WhatsApp was often used by nursing students for study, communicating with lecturers and peers where it facilitated the sharing of instructional videos. Furthermore, the research suggested that nursing students who receive encouragement to utilize information technology in their education and training are more adeptly equipped to integrate IT into clinical settings, including ongoing professional growth. The study indicated that nursing students consider IT knowledge essential to succeeding in the nursing profession. The research noted that a critical challenge to the utilization of IT in nursing is insufficient training. The study supports the findings by Ozan and Duman (2020) that technological devices are complex to understand and use and require continuous education and experience. The study also agrees with v Ozan, and Duman's (2020) findings that nurses view use of technology as a critical component of nursing practice. Ferreira, A. M. D., Oliveira, J. L. C. D., Camillo, N. R. S., Reis, G. A. X. D., Évora, Y. D. M., & Matsuda, L. M. (2019). Perceptions of nursing professionals about the use of patient safety computerization.   Revista Gaúcha de Enfermagem ,   40 . The study investigated nurses' perceptions regarding using computerization to promote patient safety. The research findings indicated that nurses view the use of a computerized system as a key factor in promoting safe care through drug administration. The nurses indicated that the computerized system enabled them to verify drug prescriptions and alert them about the patient’s allergies so that the patient was not given the wrong drug. Furthermore, the study established that computerized systems were useful and made it easy for the nurses to visualize patient information through access to the entire medical record and confirm all the procedures that the patient had undergone after visiting the hospital. Likewise, the research findings indicated that IT was critical in facilitating communication in a multidisciplinary team. The study also revealed that computerization is essential because it assists decision-making by suggesting a recommended course of action for patients whose condition is worsening based on the guidelines. The research also cited a lack of adequate technical training for new nurses as a barrier that hinders the optimization of computerized systems. The source is critical when analyzing the benefits and challenges of computerized systems. The source also emphasizes Ozan and Duman's (2020) point out the need for training when embracing new technology in nursing.
