2 Adhering to Quality and Safety Principles in DNP Education and Professional Practice My DNP education and professional practice are best supported by Domain 5: Quality and Safety and SLO 4: Generate knowledge through research and evidence-based practice to advance the nursing profession. Quality and safety are core values of nursing practice, and nurses need to adhere to established and emerging principles of safety and improvement science to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality of care and minimize the risk of harm ( Fukada, 2018). This requires nurses to stay current on safety guidelines, research best practices, and take proactive measures to coordinate resources and provide safe, equitable care to diverse populations. SLO 4 is closely related to Domain 5, as quality and safe care is achieved through research and evidence-based practice. In order to practice evidence-based care, nurses must have a thorough understanding of the theoretical bases for nursing and the scientific body of knowledge that guides nursing practice ( Shelton et al., 2018) . This understanding creates a foundation for nurses to use research and evidence-based practice to create a safe and effective healthcare system. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills must be developed to integrate evidence-based practice and generate new knowledge to advance the nursing profession. For example, one of our recent courses included a case study in which we examined a patient’s care plan and applied evidence-based practice to determine the best course of action for the patient. Through our case study, we learned the importance of properly researching and collecting data that supports quality and safety principles and staying up to date on the latest trends and guidelines in the field. Additionally, we were able to apply our knowledge of evidence-based practice to generate new knowledge that could be used to improve the quality of patient care.
3 Domain 5: Quality and Safety, and SLO 4: Generate knowledge through research and evidence-based practice to advance the nursing profession are essential for my DNP education and professional practice. Quality and safety principles must be adhered to provide safe and equitable patient care, which requires nurses to stay current on safety guidelines and use evidence-based practice to improve the quality of patient care ( Curtis et al., 2017) . Additionally, nurses must thoroughly understand the theoretical bases for nursing and the scientific body of knowledge that guides nursing practice to generate new knowledge through research.
