Week 3 Discussion 1 2 3 4 5 Respond to the following based on the case study, "Implementing a Practice Change" on page 476 from Introduction to Health Care Management: Explain to the nurse manager why this seemingly easy change was met with such resistance. Is there anything the nurse manager can do at this stage to address the issue? Explain. Make a recommendation to the nurse manager on how to implement changes going forward. Be sure to provide a rationale for your recommendation. 1
Implementing any practical change in health care may be warmly received or received with resistance. Some of the changes may be planned or unplanned. In our scenario with the nurse manager, the change seemed unplanned because o such resistance, and the work was added to their busy day. From what I have learned in past experiences when given new tasks as the way the manager gave to the nurses, the nurse manager should have communicated the reason for the change and its effects on the people and the benefits to the nurses; He should have made sure the nurses are comfortable with the change and are equipped with proper knowledge of glucose gel. The nursing manager should have made sure there was the utilization of a well-structured change management approach because it seemed the approach was not good for the staff, and that's why nurses had strong resistance to the change. My recommendation to the nurse manager is that before implementing any change, they should identify the reason behind the resistance and communicate to the nurses having well-trained staff to implement the change. Changes should be initiated and progressed by informing nurses that they should always be able to adapt to any change no matter the situation, whether planned or unplanned. Workers who have passion for their profession will always positively impact change. 2
