Provide a pleasant environment Select desirable foods Avoid foods with strong odors such as onions and red meats Encourage a glass of wine with meals because it may stimulate appetite Offer frequent high protein meals that are high in calories that are better tolerated Offer an antiemetic 30 minutes before meals 38. What signs should you look for when giving medications to cancer patients? Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea), pain, fever, and infections. 39.
