These past few weeks I have been relearning that repetition is crucial in learning any new ideas/behaviors/material/habits. Knowledge, alone, does not change behavior. Therefore, it is important to repeat new learning objectives and suggestions for patients to improve their state of health and overall wellness. After thorough assessment, in order for truly effective improvement to any patient's holistic health status, healthcare education (spoken conversations and/or printed documents) should be individualized for the specific patient's needs and learning abilities/reading level/comprehensive. It is encouraged to focus on empowering the patient to participate in his/her own self-care/decision making processes for the best overall outcomes and elevated self-confidence practices. It is often advised for professional healthcare providers to repeat evaluations/assessments of patient's progress and/or lack thereof to increase patient's satisfaction with life in general/health care services provided (Bhattad and Pacifico, 2022). It is advised to assess the patient's/audience's/aggregate's preferred learning style(s), information baseline, and what they are interested in/wishing to learn for the best outcomes of teaching methods. Some helpful teaching/learning tools can include printed documents, videos online, group settings, radio broadcasts/podcasts, television programs, etc. (Medline Plus, 2021). Through these 8 weeks of project preparation, a combination of teaching/learning techniques/strategies have been used for/with my chosen aggregate: the real estate industry/realtor aggregate population. Some of the strategies used were: face-to-face interactions at my Preceptor's residence or in public where she works, via face-time, over emails and/or text messages, phone calls, sharing potentially helpful articles/websites/recipes, and asking questions about current ways of handling daily stress verses relaxation. Repeating information (for professional healthcare providers and patients) helps improve long-term data recollection. If subject matter is given/taught/shared no more than once, it is often forgotten quickly, as it may be perceived as insignificant (Hogle, 2023). As each week has progressed, the pillars of Nursing within the South University's framework/guiding principles are shown in explicit detail. As a professional nurse, I show CARING for my chosen aggregate by determining what type of COMMUNICATION will be most effective, beneficial, and time appropriate before each meeting/session. Professional therapeutic COMMUNICATION methods are used with some laughter provoking conversation when deemed appropriate/necessary to break up the mundane/overwhelming seriousness. CRITICAL THINKING skills are used moment-by-moment to find newer ways to HOLISTICALLY incorporate PROFESSIONALISM and fun, as needed, to assist my chosen aggregate population in learning new ways to enjoy life, while reducing stress, and trying to help her stop smoking.
