TEACHING/LEARNING STRATEGY PRESENTATION 1 Teaching/Learning Strategy Presentation Name Institution
TEACHING/LEARNING STRATEGY PRESENTATION 2 Teaching/Learning Strategy Presentation Introduction about Yourself You will introduce yourself at this point. The Teaching Topic for the Presentation Obesity among Children and Young Adults in the United States The Relevance of the Topic The topic of obesity among children and young adults is of relevance to many Americans, since obesity is among the multiple diseases that are prevalent in the United States. The prevalence of obesity among adults in the United States as at 2018 stood at 42.4% from the data presented by CDC National Center for Health Statistics and the prevalence of obesity among children in the United States stands at 18.5% as at 2018 (Hales et al., 2020). Therefore, with such statistics, explain how obesity is a relevant topic for many Americans. The Learning Outcomes/Objectives Describing the seriousness of the obesity epidemic. Informing the group about the causes of obesity. Educating the group on the consequences or effects of obesity. Educating the group on multiple solutions for preventing obesity pandemic. The Audience The teaching presentation would involve teaching without an audience. The audience for this teaching presentation would be a non-health care group, and I would be teaching a group of young adults. Towards teaching young adults about obesity in children and young adults in the United States, I would use the teaching/learning strategy of the cognitive development theory of Adult Learning Theory, since adults learn differently from children. Young adults often learn effectively when they view the information depicted to them as personally relevant and essential (Candela, 2015).
TEACHING/LEARNING STRATEGY PRESENTATION 3 Obesity as a Health Complication From the case study attached, it would help young adults understand the prevalence of obesity in children and young adults in American society. Obesity is a serious medical complication in since it affects children and adults of all ages. Obesity often occurs when a person accumulates excess body fat, leading to adverse effects on an individual's health. The seriousness of obesity is that individuals suffering from such a pandemic are often at high risk of other serious medical complications such as type 2 diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and other heart diseases, arthritis, and stroke, among others (Gill, 2017). Like other diseases such as Malaria, Measles, and Typhoid, which have cure obesity does not have any cure; therefore, making it a serious medical complication. Since children, adolescents, young adults, and elderly individuals are at risk of becoming obese, many people in society often lack awareness and education on how to prevent themselves from obese and the many causes of the disease, which prompts the need for looking into such facets. Causes of Obesity in Children and Young Adults Obesity in children and young adults is caused by multiple factors that exist in a society that has influenced many individuals' ways of life. Looking at the case study involving Alice and her child Travis, they are suffering from obesity, which has been caused by their existing lifestyle. Lack of regular physical exercise by an individual increase the risk of a person becoming obese. Alice and Travis do not indulge in regular physical exercise since when the neighbors came out to work and play in the yards, they were not seen playing or engaging in physical exercise, and they were mostly seen getting in and out of their car. Therefore, lack of physical exercise and allowing children to spend most of their time watching TV and playing video games can be attributed to obesity in Travis and Alice. Eating habits have also been attributed as a cause of obesity in children and young adults. From the case study provided, it can be deduced that Alice and Travis are used to eating much fried

Obesity is also caused by family genetic as genetics plays a role in the way a person's body stores fat and where it would be accumulated (Gill, 2017). Travis obesity might have been caused by the genetics that she acquired from her mother and nothing to do with environmental factors. There is also the possibility that her baby would become obese as a result of her mother's genetics. The other causes of obesity that have not been highlighted in our case study include diseases and drugs such as Cushing's disease and polycystic ovary syndrome. Consequences of Obesity in Children and Young Adults Obesity has negative health, economic, and societal consequences on children and young adults living with the pandemic. Children suffering from obesity are at risk of experiencing psychological problems such as anxiety and depression; for example, from our case study, it can be deduced that as a result of Travis being obese, it has made him sadder. Alice is also agitated as a result of the doctor's comment about her health status, which makes her anxious and does not want anyone to talk about her weight and pregnancy, which are consequences of obesity. Another effect of obesity on children and young adults is on economic impact since the medical costs associated with obesity involve direct and indirect costs such as diagnostic and treatment services. Preventing Obesity in Children and Young Adults Obesity in children and young adults can be prevented through changing eating habits. Parents should focus on providing their children with a balanced diet and eating much fruit and vegetables. In our case study, Alice explains that she does not know how to cook healthy foods, and the high cost of fruits and vegetables makes it difficult for her to provide Travis with such foods. Obesity can be prevented through regular physical exercise by children and young adults (Zylke & Bauchner, 2018). The exercise can involve regular

Children should not be allowed to spend most of their time eating food rich in calories while watching TVs and playing video games, an aspect that Travis needs to stop. Involving the Audience The audience who are young adults would be involved through being asked questions such as: Do you know any member of your family or friends who are obese, and how can you help them? What strategies do you undertake in your life to ensure that you do not become obese? The audience would also be required to answer the questions at the end of the case study after completion of the lesson.
