Andrea Wichman What an amazing post, Andrea! The concept of big data is not new in the healthcare system. As we all are aware, big data has the potential to revolutionize healthcare by providing insights into patient care and outcomes. However, there are also potential challenges or risks of using big data as part of clinical systems. Big data raises a variety of different challenges that must be addressed in order to help improve patient outcomes, in addition to the risk of data duplication that you highlighted. The inability to gather and analyze data, language obstacles, ownership issues, data incompatibility, and worries about data security, storage, and reporting are a few of these (Aceto et al., 2020). By ensuring that the data is accurate, comprehensive, and secure, these issues can be resolved. Furthermore, it's critical to comprehend the clinical system's aims and objectives clearly. This can ensure that the system is built to balance lowering risks with meeting the demands of patients and healthcare professionals (Hulsen et al., 2019). Rossanny Tolentino I enjoyed reading your post for this week’s discussion on big data. I was particularly impressed by your point on the need “to develop an application for assessing and managing nurse competence,” as a strategy towards mitigating the risks associated with big data. Several tools are currently available to help in this. An example of such is the AMSN Medical-Surgical Nursing Competency Framework; an online assessment tool that measures and benchmarks nursing skills against a robust set of scientifically validated competency statements developed by a team of peers (Wright et al., 2020). It also helps nurses understand their own personality traits and how they contribute to their professional competency. The tool takes the guesswork out of personal and organizational assessment, allowing them to uncover their strengths and weaknesses, in order to help them better understand and communicate their level of clinical expertise and to assist with personal/team growth (Krofft & Stuart, 2021).
