Helper's Argument Analysis Helper believes that the reason the Souths economy was bad, was because slavery had enslaved the South. He talks about how the South is very dependent and gets almost everything from the North. "We want Bibles, brooms, buckets, and books, and we go to the North; ... we want toys, primers, school books, fashionable apparel, machinery, medicines, tombstones, and a thousand other things, and we go to the North for them all." The people of the South depended on slave labor, which is why they were not doing so well economy wise. The Importance Of Being An Effective Helper In these self–assessments, I have realize several things about myself and how difficult some experiences may be for me. The ideal of the first assessment, Assessing Adult Developmental Level, was to evaluate the important qualities of being an effective helper. My score was an 81 out of 120. The closer you are to 100 shows that you are more empathetic, accepting, competent, cognitively complex, and open to feedback. This assessment help me realize how open–minded and empathetic I am. I have always listen when people are talking to me. I know that everyone makes mistakes and if I want to become a Social Worker, then it is my job to help and not judge. Of course I can give them feedback and offers that can help, but it is also my job to listen before making any decisions. What I need to work on is gathering facts and information before I make a decision. Not all decision I make are going to be right. That is why I should view the problem from every angle before making a decision. In the second self–assessment, Theory and Conceptual Orientation, my highest orientation was Post–Modern. Post–Modern suggest that all reality should be questioned and your past can result to mental health problems which you can resort to therapy for help. Within this orientation, I scored the highest in narrative. Narrative suggest that the conflict that people have are created by his/her social discourse.
