2 What most Excites and/or Concerns you about Pediatric Clinical Experiences Handling young children and those at their early stages of adolescence makes one feel anxious but plays an important role in gaining experience. It’s exciting to work and interact with children. Their enthusiasm and innocence make the environment even more pleasing and the best to work. The children may not provide the quality of care they may need from healthcare professionals. Therefore, the presence of adults during the assessment is vital in the children's health. Adults, at times, may overlook and ignore the recommended care to young children during the diagnosis process. Therefore, interacting with the adults and, more specifically, adults would play a vital role in children's treatment ( Ghodousi et al., 2017). Strengths and Weaknesses Working in the emergency room provided me a room to learn my strengths. Every child requires a healthcare practitioner to attend them because they are unique in their ways. Spending time with the children and explaining the clinical procedures to them is vital since it helps in reducing anxiety and improving the level of cooperation. Despite the strengths mentioned earlier, working with adults has been a challenge. Having worked with children for a longer time, it has been a challenge to interact freely with the adults and equally prove care ( Antonini et al., 2017). Role of the Family in Pediatric Care I would define family as important people around the children and provide them with social and moral support. The family plays a crucial role in assessing and treating the children. Families with commitment follow up the well-being of their children and play a positive role in the children's health, unlike uncommitted families. The nature of the environment that the family provides plays a vital role in the children's health. A family that offers a conducive environment ensures good health status of their children. Some parents may not be willing to have their
3 children vaccinated, which is a serious threat to the lives of the children. Educating the parents on the importance of vaccination would essentially play a crucial role in making them aware of their children's safety ( Davidson et al., 2017). Family and Cultural Influences Culture and beliefs may hinder parents and families from ensuring the health safety of their children. Organizing healthcare programs to educate parents on the importance of their children's well-being would play a crucial role in promoting their children's health. Educating the parents on the importance of their children's health will play a vital role in pushing for their health status. Although culture and beliefs may hinder some children from getting healthcare needs, convincing parents through healthcare education will play an important role in convincing the parents ( Davidson et al., 2017). The Transcultural nursing theory The transcultural nursing theory would be of great importance to pediatric patients. This theory helps the nurses understand the diverse and different cultural backgrounds of different patients, which will be vital in providing care aligned to the patient’s culture and believes. My understanding of the transcultural nursing theory will help me deliver personalized care, thus achieving higher patient satisfaction rates. The essence of choosing this theory is to help me acquire the patient's cultural believes and traditions to help me customize their recovery plan based on their cultural values ( Im et al., 2018).
