2 Bridging the Nurse-Patient Cultural Gap through Advanced Nursing Practice Advanced nursing practice can bridge the cultural gap between patients and nurses by providing culturally competent care. This is care founded on understanding the patient's culture and its influence on their health practices, beliefs and preferences. Therefore, the nurse will comprehensively provide care by speaking in treatment option language that the patient understands and is easy for them to follow (Sharifi et al., 2019). Moreover, the nurse neither judges nor disregards patients' beliefs based on their aspects but encourages them to embrace what works best for them. This will also allow the nurse practitioner to empathize with the patient throughout the care delivery period. Through cultural competence the nurse develops, they will be culturally aware of dropping any prejudices about the patients' culture. In addition, it will create cultural knowledge, which improves the interaction and understanding between the nurse and the patient. Through artistic skills, the nurse will develop significant cross-cultural interactions enabling them to have complete data about the various patient cultures they are dealing with daily (Harkess & Kaddoura, 2016). These components add to valuing the patient and applauding their strengths towards their own care. As a result, high-quality care is offered to each patient, leading to improved patient experience, satisfaction, and outcome. The nursing profession forms the backbone of the healthcare workforce. Therefore, when the advanced nursing practice fails to incorporate cultural competence into a routine, patients will fear seeking services due to stereotypes, prejudices, and terms that do not comprehend their beliefs and practices (Chae et al., 2022). This may lead to the health sector suffering significant loss and eventually limiting its services. Through continuing education, specific assessments, and
3 cross-cultural interactions, cultural competence can be made plausible, bridging the cultural gap between them and the patients.
