2 Research Topic: In the Acute Care Setting, Does the Implementation of a Nurse-Led Rounding Program Compared to No Rounding Program Decrease Patient Falls? Introduction Deliberate patient rounding is round-the-clock, purposeful communication by members of the medical team with each patient and/or their caregivers or family members. The intended hourly rounding includes checking patients every hour during the day and every 2 hours at night. It is designed to fully address the needs of the patient. 1. 3 3. Problem Identification Falls can be prevented by restraining all patients in the acute care setting from leaving their bed. However, this restriction would be unethical and demonstrates poor care (Kadivar et al., 2017). Patient falls cause nonfatal injuries and trauma-associated hospitalizations and have been directly associated with quality health care (Fridman, 2019). Hourly rounding needs to be acknowledged as a proactive technique to forecast the patient needs and enhance the effectiveness of the nurse care delivery (Sims et al., 2020). Patient hourly rounding will help reduce unnecessary hospitalizations, reduce the length of stay in the hospitals and reduce the cost of healthcare.
