Medical Model Vs. Social Model Infographic
2
Medicine has developed so much over the past decade, the enlargement of health care transformation that came with considerable appearances within the United States. According
to Shi & Singh, (2022), the medical model is known to be defined as when a person is free of any
health issues or diseases and therefore does not need any medical treatment. The social determinants of health are defined to be the conditions in which people are born in, but also the conditions people live in, work in, that is created by how the money is distributed, power, and the resources that are at local, governmental, and national levels (Guevara, M., Chen, S., Thomas, S., Chaunzwa, T. L., Franco, I., Kann, B. H., Moningi, S., Qian, J. M., Goldstein, M., Harper, S., Aerts, H. J. W. L., Catalano, P. J., Savova, G. K., Mak, R. H., & Bitterman, D. S., 2024). The lower-class people in America (also known as the poor people), would greatly benefit from the social health model since the social health model focuses on the low-income families, living environment, and the affordability of health insurance or not. Low-income housing can start to cause lower self esteem as well as stress ultimately leading to take a toll on one’s health. Those that live in the lower income housing may not have the funds to buy healthier options when it comes to preparing meals, that leads to poor gut and heart health and then can lead to heart disease and diabetes both of which can be avoided. Those who live in the lower class should not feel like they are less than they are because they simply are just trying to live and make it through their everyday lives. The socioeconomic plays a big role in one’s health,
because if one lives in a lower income house and unable to upstand the repairs of the home and there is lead or mold in the home and the child is ingesting it, it can then effect the child’s health such as stunting their growth (Diana L. Aguirre, Casey Perez & Edwin K. Burkett, 2022). 3
