RUNNING HEADER: MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES ANALYSIS Analysis Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, opened on February 6, 1961, as the largest hospital campus in Northern Virginia and the flagship of the Inova Health System. Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is in Northern Virginia and the home to the Inova Fairfax Hospital, Inova Womens Hospital, Inova L.J. Murphy Childrens Hospital, and Inova Schar Heart and Vascular ( About Inova 2023). Inova Fairfax Hospital trauma level one facility houses 285 beds and employs over 5000 employees. For thirty-five years, CEO J Knox Singleton’s mission was to expand and evolve the organization. Strategic direction is imperative to the success of an organization. The mission and vision statements created by the corporate center describe the strategic direction for the total organization (Moseley, 2018). Inova Fairfax is clear on their direction, the hospital has been intentional and addressing their internal concerns; “We are examining and addressing our own systems and outcomes, partnering with our communities on actions that promote and achieve health equity, while tackling broader change (About Inova n.d). Establish that the executive director of the organization is firmly behind the strategic planning effort and will use his authority and influence to see it through to implementation (Moseley, 2018). Dr. J Stephens was appointed the new CEO with a change of tempo from retired CEO J Knox Singleton with the rebrand. Our new brand evokes a welcoming environment where patients feel supported and valued. Mission In an interview with the Washington Post, CEO Singleton stated "You wouldn't pick someone like me for the next decade," on his retirement as CEO. This ignited a change in the mission of Inova Hospital. “Frequently, when a new management team takes over a business, it wants to adjust the mission (Moseley, 2018) . The new CEO, Dr. J. Stephen Jones, says these moves will enable the organization to focus more on clinical care and work as a single unit ( Inova is making structural changes. Here are the

The mission of Inova Fairfax Hospital - “It is our mission to provide world-class healthcare to every person in every community we have the privilege to serve . In doing so, we commit to actively building anti-racist and anti-discriminatory communities and a fairer society.” ( About Inova . Inova.) An organization’s mission is the current purpose for the organization’s existence. The mission statement is a concise explanation of what the firm is, what it does, and what it does not do (Moseley, 2018). The mission set forth by Inova Fairfax shows a shift in the direction and purpose of the company. The mission and vision statements held by Inova Farifax would be considered a good mission. The brevity of the statement includes powerful key words; world class healthcare, community, anti-systematic and anti-racism. A mission statement for a healthcare facility which is inclusive and aware of the lack of trust people of color have for the healthcare system is profound. Mission and vision statements should be expansive in a way that reconciles differences among, and still appeals to, an organization’s diverse stakeholders (Moseley, 2018) Furthermore , a mission should highlight points that differ from their competitors (Moseley, 2018) . Inova expanding its mission to include more than healthcare specific qualities, sets them apart from their competitors like VHC. Virginia Hospital Center’s mission “ To provide the highest quality clinical care ( Mission & Vision | Arlington, VA | VHC health 2024) The VHC key words listed in their vision statement include; community, technology advancements and managing resources. Through the mission and vision criteria set forth Inova has a good mission statement that arouses positive feelings and emotions about the organization and an individual’s role within it (Moseley, 2018)

RUNNING HEADER: MISSION, VISION, AND VALUES ANALYSIS Christian Worldview Christian worldview refers to the framework of ideas and beliefs through which a Christian individual, group or culture interprets the world and interacts with it. Inova Values; Our Patients, Our People, One Team, Integrity, and Excellence ( Inova's values: Patient always 2020). Key words “Integrity and Excellence "the Bible states "The integrity of the upright will guide them" (Proverbs 11:3). Healthcare organizations emphasizing integrity provide security to their patients and staff. Providers who join this organization are expected to be intentionally selected, thoroughly vetted to uphold the organization's value. Integrity is shown in their mission- Anti systematic, antiracism. Excellence is stated in Bible “But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, and in all eagerness and in the love from us that is in you—make sure that you excel in this act of kindness too” (2 Corinthians 8:7), The strategic direction of Inova is led by a service of excellence through the care of their patients, employees, community and understanding. With the Christian Worldview, Gods people are to strive for greatness as well as kindness. Including values regarding character outside of clinical and addressing inclusion. Inova is committed to caring for all Gods people. It is not merely assumed as in many missions and values; it is clearly stated. Major organizational resources The major organizational resources needed to accomplish the mission and vision and uphold the company values start by recognizing the company's current state. The new CEO, the visual rebrand, the new mission statement which recognizes the steps moving forward and how they will uphold their promise. “We are examining and addressing our own systems and outcomes, partnering with our communities on actions that promote and achieve health equity, while tackling broader change (About Inova n.d) Inova rebranding shedding light on their commitment in all aspects.
