BMET 1302 Class
Week 1, Webinar Assessment: Medical Terminology
Write a webinar assessment (minimum 200-word) answering the following:
Discuss how understanding medical terminology will influence your
communication as a biomedical technician
A: No matter what your job in the healthcare field a good understanding of medical
terminology is important to do your work effectively. If you can’t comprehend what is
being written, read, verbally communicated, or billed with medical terminology than you
affect patient safety, patient experiences, and efficient care. Even when two people are
speaking at the same time, various channels of communication are used, such as –
words, body language, and facial expressions. For this reason, standardized medical
terminology terms were created over time to help healthcare personnel get across
complex information quickly and accurately. Its like a verbal map.
A biomedical technician needs to be able to say how they diagnosed issues with
equipment and how they figured out the options for completing the repair. Medical
terminology gives them the ability to do so.
Share one aspect that stood out to you during the webinar
A: There is a large amount of medical terminology to learn but don’t overload with all of
them at once.
Know prefix – usually gives number, amount, color, or size
Know suffix – always read med term from last part first
Review the most common terms, don’t spend a lot of time trying to memorize
every term
Anatomy is about understanding how the body works and we are more than just the
sum of our parts.
