Delivery from the vial A. The metal cap is peeled away - circulator draws up the drug with a syringe and hypo needle - then empties the contents into a sterile med cup held by scrub B. Circulator may hold vial in an inverted position while the ST withdraws - with an 18 gauge hypo needle
Delivery from the ampule 1. The top of an ampule is broken off at the neck - should be snapped away from face 2. Some come with plastic protective cap to prevent injury. - if it doesnt, then a gauze may be placed over the narrowed area of the ampule for protection 3. After ampule is broken, item used to protect hands should be discarded from sterile field - to avoid glass particles into surgical wound
Delivery from the pour bottle 1. Cap is lifted straight up and off 2. Entire contents poured 3. Unused portions should not be saved for later use
