Unit 5 Discussion
My first step in my research process was accessing the Herzing Library. From there, I went to the A-Z database and clicked the letter “P” to navigate to ProQuest Central. In the search box, I typed in “Risks of oral contraceptives” and checked the “full text” and “Peer-reviewed” boxes.
The three sources I chose were:
Kemmeren, J. M., Tanis, B. C., Maurice A A J van den,Bosch, Edward, L. E. M. B., & al, e. (2002). Risk of arterial thrombosis in relation to oral contraceptives (ratio) study: Oral
contraceptives and the risk of ischemic stroke.

thrombosis-relation-oral/docview/197838839/se-2
This article presents the increased risks of venous thrombosis in women taking oral contraceptives. Not only “oral contraceptives” but third-generation contraceptives, including progestogens desogestrel or gestodene. It talked about a study on women 18-49 years old, some who had a stroke, and some who had no vascular diseases using oral contraceptives. MacGregor, E. A. (2013). Contraception and Headache.
Headache,

(2), 247-276. https://doi.org/10.1111/head.12035
This scholarly journal explores how women have the question as to whether their method of contraception choice will have effects on pre-existing headaches/migraines or if there are restrictions on taking headache medicine while taking contraceptives. Upton, K. (1987, Sep 27). Study: Smoking, taking oral contraceptives increases heart risks: [CITY Edition].
