Good afternoon,
My name is Gayle and I have been in the medical field for over 25 years, starting as a nursing assistant,
on to medical assisting and am currently working as an office manager in a behavioral health clinic.
I
have worked in many different facilities and specialties.
I look forward to reaching an administration
position within the organization of Catholic Charities that I currently am employed with at the
completion of the master’s program in healthcare administration.
My initial reaction to the resistance of improvement initiatives within the articles read was that of not
being surprised.
Early in medical research and treatment, the culture was much different than today.
Women and men had their places is society and where they were expected to adhere to.
Also, cultures
believed that diseases and death came from spiritual and mythical factors, not viruses or infections.
Reason for hesitancy that brought resistance in quality improvements are fear of change, change
is new and difficult.
Providers who have been practicing for many years are harder to persuade to
change treatments and routines.
In early centuries many scientists and medical professionals were
trying to be the first to find reasons and treatments for ailments, and sicknesses and were reluctant to
confess that their theory was wrong, and another’s correct. “The responses were almost uniformly
negative as they had been when he first announced his findings. He faced fierce opposition from some of
the most prominent physicians in Europe, such as Rudolf Virchow and Friedrich Scanzoni von Lichtenfels,
who held different views about the causes of childbed fever. “(Kadar et al., 2018) This caused many
innocent people to lose their lives needlessly.
I do believe that although the roles of men and women has changed substantially, there is still
some gender discrimination in the health care field.
Also, providers are still set in their ways, and it is
extremely difficult to make changes within organizations regarding treatment practices and safety
protocols.
Lastly, technology and innovation are a multi-billion-dollar industry in today’s society and it’s
almost a race to find new mediations, therapies and technologies to treat patients.
There are still
instances where people lose their lives to these entities not being properly researched and confirmed.
