Hello Class,
Evaluate why hospitals and medical organizations continue to
accept patients who are covered by Medicare or Medicaid when they
lose money on patient care costs.
Hospitals continue to accept patients who are covered by Medicare and
Medicaid when they are losing money on patient care and costs for multiple
potential reasons, which consist of the hospital receiving government/state
funding, meaning the hospital can recover quickly from losing money on
these patients, they believe the funding could come from elsewhere such as
out of pocket expenditures of the patients regard, the hospital could be doing
it for revenue as well because most of Americans are on Medicare and
Medicaid which if they did not allow that insurance then they would lose
many patients.
Discuss ways you feel medical organizations can provide quality
care for all patients or groups of people regardless of their health
care coverage and ability to pay for care.
There are many ways medical organizations can provide quality care for all
patients or groups of people regardless of their health care coverage and
ability to pay for care, such as the number one way being knowledge.
Educating the community about home health aids they can safely conduct on
themselves or a family member is crucial to help the community still get
quality care; walk-in clinics that are aided to help individuals struggling with
poverty could be run by volunteer nurses, physicians, and CNAs. A list of
over-the-counter medications and what they can be used for could be
broadcast to the community so that they can get medications at a
reasonable price. The healthcare facilities in the area could also implement a
financial aid program to help the patients slowly pay for their care. There
could also be grants that families could apply for.
Discuss the financial implications of gross uncollectibles on the
bottom line of the health care institution. Provide your rationale for
your response.
The financial implications of gross uncollectibles on the bottom line of
healthcare on the bottom line of healthcare institutions, in my opinion, are
that the institution's finances will decrease significantly and could impact
areas such as manning, creating staffing issues, which will then create a
revenue issue due to the aspect there is not enough staff to care for current
patients which won't allow any spots for future patients to be seen.
Identify at least one method a hospital can use to create new
revenue streams to overcome financial losses. Provide your
rationale for the method and include the target market.
The most crucial method a hospital can use to create new revenue streams
in 2023 is to go fully electronic, meaning patient portals that patients can
send and receive messages, see results, prescriptions, referrals, and much
more. Going fully electronic also means that the hospital must implement
telehealth appointments via phone call or video chat. This will attract a lot of
revenue because it is highly convenient to the patients needing care,
bringing in more finances and help significantly; patient portals are
“provider-tethered applications that allow patients to access, but not to
control, certain healthcare information (e.g., their EHR [electronic health
record]) and provide communication and administrative functions (e.g.,
secure messaging, appointment booking, and prescription refill
requests”(
Grünloh et al.,2018,p.2)
. The target market would be middle-aged-
to elderly patients who either work and cannot make appointments easily or
cannot drive. This will ensure they still are receiving the care they need and
desire. The targeted market could also be parents of young children because
it would be safer to call from home to get the care they need instead of
taking the young infant/child to a facility where they could potentially catch
another severe illness. Most of America is transitioning to telemedicine, and
this could help the institution greatly with recuperating lost finances;
“Electronic Health Record Systems capabilities and innovativeness for using
it can be improved by designing and integrating it with processes which have
an impact in people’s life and features towards which people get attracted.”
(Thakur et al.2023.pp. 1-2). Implementing patient portals and EHR, all while
moving towards and using telemedicine appointments will help the
institution save an exponential amount of money.
