As a healthcare provider, it is important to utilize all aspects of care when taking care of patients. These are not only limited to traditional medicine but also holistic medicine. Holistic care is an approach that views the patient in terms of physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Holistic care may utilize meditation, therapeutic massage, acupuncture, aromatherapy, herbal remedies, hypnosis, and spiritual counseling to promote recovery in patients (Jasemi et al., 2017). The first time-mother at the health clinic who is visibly upset due to various reasons such as feeling sore after childbirth, having increased arguments with her partner, and feeling emotional due to her mother's recent passing is displaying signs of postpartum depression. As a healthcare provider, I can build rapport with the patient through therapeutic communication and having the patient speak about her concerns. Listening to the patient allows the provider to learn more about the root problems that the patient is facing. In this scenario the patient is dealing with physical issues from trauma after childbirth, however, the bigger concern is the mental issue that she is experiencing after childbirth. I would implement a holistic care approach for the recovery of this patient through various methods such as spiritual counseling, therapeutic massage, acupuncture, and meditation. Meditation techniques will allow her to control her breathing and bring peace of mind. This will help her ease any anxiety that she may be experiencing from the disputes with her partner as well as the recent passing of her mother. Spiritual counseling will also allow the patient to regain her mental wellbeing by allowing her to speak about her problems and receive guidance. Acupuncture and therapeutic massage will promote pain relief for this patient that is experiencing discomfort from internal tears and possible weight related changes from pregnancy.
