New Century Health Clinic – Mission Statement (2.1)
New Century Health Clinic is a (fictitious) mid-sized clinic in rural Kanas. It currently employs about 50 employees (including clinicians) at 3 locations. It provides a full range of outpatient services to various communities; however, New Century has struggled to grow. The CEO, Charles Griggs, suspects the clinic is not utilizing available technology to support the changing demands of their patients, local hospitals, and clinicians. Tasks

Research examples and develop a mission statement for New Century Health Clinic that reflects what you know about them.
2 New Century Health Clinic – SWOT Analysis (2.2.2) You are part of a systems consulting team that will be working with Charles and his team to determine what technology solutions might benefit New Century. Your first step is to assist New
Century in better understating its overall positioning.

1.
Develop questions to ask New Century’s CEO to help him conduct a SWOT analysis. 2.
How does the mission statement (you created above) assist New Century in the SWOT analysis?
3.
What are the critical success factors for New Century to achieve its mission? 4.
Develop a SWOT Analysis for New Century using the format below.

New Clinic’s IT director, Lisa Bridges, has been with New Clinic since they first opened their doors in 2003. While the clinic participated in HITECH funding to move to an Electronic Health System, other IT-related projects have been on the back burner such as Human Resource systems, security protocols to support interoperability, and necessary EHR reporting modules. These upgrades new system will improve employee satisfaction, provide access to additional operational and strategic information as well as avoid possible fines and penalties for noncompliance.
Tasks
1.
Locate an example of a good business case. What are the key components of the business
case for New Century’s IT update?
2.
Develop 2-3 sentences for each component that could be used to expand on a more detailed business case for New Century. Include some of the internal and external factors that New Century Clinic should consider (2.4).
4
New Century Clinic – Feasibility Study (2.6)
Lisa is excited about the new projects, however, due to budget constraints will not be able
to proceed with all of them. New Century will be opening it’s 4
th
location in 6 months, so new initiatives need to be finalized so that this location comes onboard utilizing the new components to avoid rework. The current EHR vendor is offering preferred pricing on additional modules if they are implemented by the end of the year. There is also a big push by the regional hospital in Kansas to bring the New Century physicians online with their facility in order to share patient data across the state.
Tasks
2.
You have the go-ahead for one of the three projects, however, further investigation is needed to better understand the feasibility. Select one of the three projects to consider 1) New EHR modules, 2) New Human Resources system, and 3) System security and interoperability to address the next questions. Review each constraint and identify its characteristics: present vs. future, internal vs. external, and mandatory vs. desirable.
