ELM-562 Topic 2 Literacy intervention and remediation are important tools that are used in the classroom to help teach and increase a students understanding of reading. As we have learned from the previous lesson, remediation is used to help reteach information to the students who have not yet mastered the lesson, and intervention is used to help close any learning gaps the students might have. As we have learned both of these tools are needed to help students succeed since they both rely on providing students with extra support they might need. There are plenty of reading strategies that can be used to help students gain a better understanding of the source material and one such option is to utilize “Think-Pair-Share”. This strategy is important because it encourages group interactions between the students to help solve a problem. This is done by having the students answer a question themselves, then sharing their idea with classmates, and this can result in students pairing up with multiple classmates to hear each different idea. Once the students have grouped up and discuss their ideas with everyone, they can then have an open classroom discussion of the material as a whole and see how each other's thought process works. Not only can this strategy work in literature discussing a story's plot or purpose, it can also be used among other subjects such as math or history. Along with that it will also help students practice communicating with others and collaborating with one another as well.
