What name do you like to be called? What exposure have you had with medical terminology? What do you look forward to learning about most in this class? How is this class relevant to your professional future? The reading and lecture outlined some advantages and disadvantages of electronic medical records (EMR) and paper records (PR). Select one advantage and disadvantage for both EMR and PR and describe a scenario or rationale to support. For example, a disadvantage of EMR could be that if the office/facility does not have good Wi-Fi, EMR would not be beneficial. (You should not use this example in your post). Hello, Mr. Robert! It’s a pleasure to be part of the class. My name is Christina but everyone just calls me Chrissy 😊 Other than Doctors who often use medical language with their patients in a way we can understand the diagnosis and treatment, This is my very first time being exposed to any medical terminology, and Clinical Terminology! I look forward to learning about most is being able to establish good documentation that provides patient safety, and the best quality care. Medical Records and Insurance is relevant to my professional future by learning to complete an accurate and thorough medical record. Any information you gather from the patient must be in chronological order and should be comprehensive enough to allow a colleague to carry on where you left off. It’s also beneficial to ensure that your patients get the right care at the right time. An advantage of using an electronic medical record is that it’s way more convenient and efficient, It’s organized and referenced. It has Easy patient access and can be pulled up by multiple other clinical offices. A disadvantage of incorporating Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is, that the cost of the EMR systems can run up to $30,000 per provider, and they can be prone to technical problems. An advantage of using paper records is that they are always customizable, it reduces initial costs, and it’s a familiar format. The disadvantage of using paper records is that they have a limitation of storage, there is a higher risk for errors and there could be layout inconsistencies.
