Thymus gland (may not be visible, identify in textbook) 2. Spleen 3. MALT (identify in textbook) 4. Lymph nodes 5. Lymphatic vessels 6. Bone marrow 7. Appendix 8. Tonsils
Annah Moore Lymphatic System Table Check out the torso model, identify the structures (1-8) and provide description (1-2 sentences each) in the table below. Be sure to use correct spellings when writing the terms. Each answer is worth two points. Lymphatic Structure 1 Thymus- The thymus is a gland in the lymphatic system that makes and trains T-cells. It produces most of your T-cells before birth. 2 Spleen- The spleen is a small organ that is in the left rib cage above the stomach. It is responsible for storing and filtering blood and making white blood cells that protect you from infection. 3 MALT- MALT is a lymphoid tissue that is located in your GI, urinary, respiratory, and reproductive tracts. 4 Lymph nodes- Lymph nodes are small lumps of tissue that contain white blood cells. Lymph nodes or lymph glands play a major role in fighting infections. They function as filter, trapping viruses, bacteria, and other of illnesses before they can infect other parts of the body. 5 Lymphatic vessels- Lymphatic vessels are thin walled tube-like structures that carry fluid/ lymph away from the tissues to deliver it back into the bloods circulation. 6 Bone Marrow- Bone marrow is a spongy fatty tissue found in the center of bones. It contains cells that produce blood cells and platelets and it is
Annah Moore responsible for making new blood cells. 7 Appendix- The appendix is a thin tube that is a part of the GI. It is in the lower right part of your abdomen. 8 Tonsils- Tonsils are lymph nodes in the back of the mouth and top of the throat. It helps to filter out bacteria and germs to prevent infection in the body. PART B: Histology Check out the histological sections of spleen, lymph node, and thymus. Search online for images or get images from book. Select one image for each of the organs and label it. Please include links to images as references. 1. Picture of Spleen with Labelling
