Lohff Assignment 8c. Chapter 11 Questions 1. RESPONSE SYSTEMS: What type of classroom response system do these teachers use? Students have a handheld response device that they respond to questions with. These are called clickers by the students. How do these teachers use the system to increase participation? These teachers used this tool to ensure 100% participation in the classroom because they were new, fun, and also showed students that every response was important. How do these teachers use the system to inform instruction? This was helpful because the teacher was able to determine if they were able move on in the unit or if there are specific areas that the entire class is struggling with and maybe need additional time on. It also helps teachers to see every students response rather than just a few. It also helps to show data quickly and live time so that changes can be made immediately rather than after time was set aside to be able to grade quizzes at the end of the unit. 2. USING TECHNOLOGY: How do these teachers use technology to communicate data to each other and collaborate? On Track data helps teachers to see student progress across the board rather than just what they are able to collect. This helps teachers to be able to identify students at the beginning of the year that may need additional support from the get go. This allows teachers to collaborate easily to see what supports are helping students be successful and achieve in school. Who developed this method of assessment data collection/reporting? This was initially created by 9th grade teachers who came together to look at how course performance in the entire district was not acceptable. They came up with solutions to help students be successful in the course and school as a whole. Is this similar to what happens in your school? In my school I have access to a student's entire data history. I can pull up grades, attendance, test scores, ect so that I am able to create a whole picture of what each student has done in school up until me. I think that this is helpful in being able to see trends and where they may have missed important skill mastery that may be limiting them now. When there are students who are consistently underperforming they are grouped and referred to as out students needing Tier 2 level support. This helps the grade level teams and the administration make plans for interventions to best support students before the year starts rather than wrongfully assuming that it is a new year and everyone needs a fresh start. This is harmful because the deficits that were identified
before the new school year started are still there regardless of a new school year starting.
