ELM-250 Topic 4: Procedures, Rules, Rewards and Consequences Grade Level:__5th_________ Part 1: Procedures Procedure Example: Entering the Classroom Purpose of procedure Procedure steps or activity When the procedure will be: Assessment /Feedback Introduced Modeled Practiced To create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning the moment class begins. 1. Walk in quietly (entering a new zone). 2. Get organized before the bell (sharpen pencil, homework ready …). 3. Begin working quietly on the warm-up (in your notebook with paper labeled). Teacher will introduce the procedure on the first day of school. The teacher will model the procedure at the beginning of class for the first week of school. Teacher and students will repeat when reinforcement is needed or when new students join the class. Teacher will watch for students who follow the steps correctly and will positively reinforce the students. Procedure #1 Late/ Missed Assignments Purpose of procedure Procedure steps or activity When the procedure will be: Assessment /Feedback Introduced Modeled Practiced It aims to provide the necessary resources, time, and freedom for students to complete their documentation properly upon returning to class. 1.When the student returns to class, they will be informed that they were absent, and they must complete their documentation. 2.The teacher will then go over the missed assignments to make sure that they are clear instructions. 3. If the work is a test the student will have three days to complete it This procedure will be discussed and explained thoroughly on the first day of class. The teacher will provide a scenario for the students in case of this situation. The teacher will also demonstrate and show where the assignment bin will be for the work Occasionally to help remind students of the procedure making sure that they are aware of how to turn in and complete late assignments. If a student has been absent for more than two days in a row, the teacher will contact the parents or guardian to make sure that they are okay. The teacher will provide support as

This procedure will be introduced the first day of class. The teacher will demonstrate with student volunteers. This procedure will be practiced regularly. More so I am student is having difficult following the procedure. If the procedure is unsuccessful, it will be revised. Feedback and suggestions are welcome from students. Procedure #3 Group Assignments Purpose of procedure Procedure steps or activity When the procedure will be: Assessment /Feedback Introduced Modeled Practiced Students must perform well in group settings to develop their communication and problem-solving abilities. This is done through the use of their skills in problem-solving. 1. The students must listen to the teacher's instructions. 2. They must also write down their ideas using materials given. 3. The teachers must then assess their understanding and assign each member a task. 4. They must promote interaction by making sure that each member is focused on their job. The teacher will provide an explanation of how each step will be conducted. This will be accomplished through the prior assignments, as well as the utilization of visuals aids to help pupils comprehend the instructions. This will be conducted during the assigned task. The students will have the opportunity to practice this during the given assignments. During the group activity, the teacher can assess the students' performance by monitoring their activity. The teacher will walk from one group to another to supervise and instruct.
Procedure #4 Restroom Visits Purpose of procedure Procedure steps or activity When the procedure will be: Assessment /Feedback Introduced Modeled Practiced The goal is to allow the students to demonstrate their trustworthiness by performing their own personal tasks without adult supervision. 1. Hold three fingers to signal that students need to go to the restroom. 2. After the teacher acknowledges them, students can sign their name on a whiteboard and turn in their ticket. 3. They can then turn in their unused tickets at the end of the day to get a chance to win. This procedure will be introduced on the first day of class. Students will model this with the help of the teacher. It is important to regularly reinforce the proper usage of procedures. Repeat the training on a specific subject whenever deemed appropriate. Procedure #5 Late Arrival to Class Purpose of procedure Procedure steps or activity When the procedure will be: Assessment /Feedback Introduced Modeled Practiced It is important to ensure that disruptions are minimized and that students are getting the ideal amount of time to settle into studies. 1.The entrance to the room should be polite and quiet. 2.Homework should be placed in a basket, and journal writing should begin. 3. Students should also ask their neighbors what they are doing. This procedure will be introduced on the first day of class. It will also be posted in the class to give students a reminder of the procedure for late arrival. The teacher will teach the students to model this so that others are aware of it. The teacher will model this with the help of a student volunteer. It will be molded as needed and for new students. The teacher will give students praise for a job well done. Rationale Write a 100-150 word rationale explaining how procedures minimize distractions and maximize instructional time. In order to run smoothly, the class must follow proper procedures. “Soon after the introductions, usually after the initial room description, present the major rules and procedures” ( Evertson & Emmer, 2017, pg. 103). Students will be more focused on what they are expected to do when they have these rules in place, and they can accomplish their tasks faster with fewer distractions. This helps the teacher complete their work more effectively. Some of these procedures can help minimize distractions, such as entering the classroom properly when coming in late. Doing so can prevent disruptions, and it can also help the teacher complete their tasks more effectively. Having a procedure for late or missed assignments can help the

teacher get the most out of their time. The management of the class could become chaotic if there were no procedures in place to help it run smoothly. Part 2: Rules, Consequences, and Rewards System List 5 rules and consequences for classroom behavior. Consequences should be applicable to all rules, and get progressively more stringent in order to coach student’s negative behaviors and allow them to demonstrate positive behaviors. Rules: 1) Bes respectful to the teacher, peers, subs, administrators, and others. 2) Follow the directions given. 3) Be prepared for class. 4) Raise your hand to speak. 5) No bullying, profanity, or unkind acts. Consequences: 1) Verbal warning will be given first. 2) After school or class, talk to the teacher about the actions that were taken. 3) Certain privileges may be taken away, such as recess and extracurricular activities. 4) Coordinate a meeting between the school's administration and the parents. 5) Student will be sent to principal’s office and handled from there possible detention. Documenting Consequences: Describe where and how you will document the consequences . In my classroom I will keep it simple and organized for such documentation. Having the necessary documentation will help with keeping up with my claims and results. Having the necessary documentation will help make the claims and results look real. I will keep the documents inside a folder. Grouping documents together by months and alphabetical order, I will ensure that all records are dated and marked properly. This will help facilitate parent-teacher meetings and stay connected with the organization. Reward System
Choose or create your own reward system for your future classroom. Be sure to address how you will document rewards. Ideally, this should avoid use of first and second person phrases, but focus on “Teacher will” or “Student will” concepts . Cash bucks which will be printed out and awarded to students for appropriate behavior during class. 1. The teacher may give the students cash for various things, such as turning in their homework on time, being the secret student, and following rules. 2. They can also spend their money on Friday's, which can be used to buy various items from the teacher's stash box. Students can additionally view price lists for different products. 3. Students can use the cash for exchange of other things such as sitting by a buddy at lunch, educational games on the tablet or other technology resource, seating pass, etc. 4. Students have the option of saving their cash for later purchases for another week and spending it on bigger prizes. Rationale Write a 100-150 word rationale that explains how the system will help create a safe and productive learning environment. Reward systems that are tangible can motivate students to strive for better results. “As a result, when students remain engaged, they are required to access deeper, more critical thinking skills, which, in turn, increases achievement” ( Kyoko, Troncale, Calhoun, Alvidez, 2017, pg. 5). This system will help encourage students to engage in appropriate behavior for such rewards. Through this system, students can input what they would like to receive as a reward. For instance, they may want to receive lunch with a friend as it allows them to get away from their usual setting. At this age, students might start believing that sitting in a teacher's chair is a big deal. They should also be given rewards that are appropriate for their age. Creating a rewards system can help students stay focused on improving their performance. Reference Page Evertson, C. M., & Emmer, E. T.
