Q1- When working in a team, what role do you feel you naturally take on? Working in a team was important to me because I had never had this experience before, as we worked together throughout the semester. So, I wasn't familiar with all the roles well. But I always took on the role of the Timekeeper. For example, I was planning time for the team during the projects, and this included distributing time to carry out tasks and completing them sufficiently before the deadline. I would also send reminder alerts before the scheduled deadline for a particular assignment or project. Q2- When joining a brand-new team, what best practices do you like to do to ensure your team is successful? I will get to know the team members by listening to them. This is very important in my opinion because it will enhance understanding and harmony between us during the project. It will also develop communication between all team members, which will result in better performance. From my experience with the team during this semester, communication between us was somewhat weak. Because we lacked enhancing communication in the beginning, it was complicated to develop it in the middle of the work because there is always pressure and work that is why I mentioned that paying attention to communication is the first thing I will do when joining a new team in the future. Q3- If you are given a choice between multiple design options to be a potential solution to a problem, what steps would you follow to make an informed decision about the best option? I will make an AHP table and work on the design matrix to determine which of the options performs best by choosing all the criteria that is needed to meet the requirements and rating each one and select the best design that scores the highest. Q4- Tell me about a time when you had difficulties working in your team. How did you handle the situation, and how did you overcome the obstacles? During the semester, my team faced a difficulty as one of the members withdrew from the team without warning. This was difficult because we were in the middle of working on the project and the work was divided among everyone. Therefore, we distributed the tasks again and divided them among three people instead of four. To be honest, it was difficult for us to work from that moment because there was a lot of pressure, despite that I think we accomplished a lot and achieved our goals. Q5- What is your greatest strength as a team member, engineer, or future employee? Can you tell me a situation where this strength can be seen? I have the skill of troubleshooting, and I can predict the course of events based on my previous professional experience. These two skills help me a lot in technical and engineering projects. During one of the experiments in our project, a colleague faced a problem with the motor’s operation. I did troubleshoot, starting with the wires, the electronic board, and changing the battery, until I finished checking the codes to see if they were written correctly and noticed that there was a very simple error, and here lies the importance of troubleshooting.
Q6- What "Systems Engineering" skills do you feel you have gained after this semester at ASU? Which of these skills do you feel will help you the most in obtaining an engineering career? I learned a lot of skills that changed a lot of my experience during this semester. Mastering MATLAB, working under pressure, working on electronic circuits, and many other skills. But I believe that the skill of public speaking was the most important to me. The engineer needs to overcome all the challenges and difficulties he faces by training and practicing them. Q7- Explain several pitfalls you encountered during the build process where you had to change your project from the proposal? The challenges we face in any project are always ways to improve what can be improved. In our project, there were things that changed during the work period, the most important of which was the conveyor belt, as we were not able to do what we had planned, which was to make a special belt from some tools. Unfortunately, that failed, but we replaced the idea with another idea, which was printing the pieces with a 3D printer and that was a great experience to acknowledge. Q8- Based on your experience designing a product with a variety of engineering disciplines intertwined to work together, how serious are you about becoming a "Systems Engineer"? Did this experience help you become more excited about your major in engineering, or more excited about getting involved in a variety of design projects? Certainly ! The experiences we had during this semester made me more excited to become an engineer and innovator in the future. Not only that, but my enthusiasm has increased towards other engineering majors that I would like to have as a minor, such as Mechanical Engineering, Construction engineering, or Computer Engineering. Q9- Out of all the labs and the project, which activity do you feel you learned the most that will help you with your student success at ASU? Why? In my opinion, the most effective activity we have done is the Ping Pong Challenge. In this challenge, we carried out our experiments in several conditions, such as a rainy day and the sunny day Challenges. I also benefited from this experience in many new skills, such as brainstorming, orthographic drawing, and learning how to work on Tinker CAD. Q10- After going through the project this semester, how would your team norms have changed if you had to write them again? A lot will likely change in writing the new norms. I think that there are some points that should be focused more on and which we initially did not give enough importance to, such as effective communication between team members, and doing the specified work on enough time before deadlines. Q11- (Extra Credit) Overall, explain your experience with FSE 100 in your first semester; for example, was it positive, negative, helpful in deciding your major, frustrating, too easy, too hard? What do you feel could be improved? My experience with FSE-100 can be described as exceptional. I consider it the ideal way to gain skills, prepare us for engineering experience, master what we are working on, and increase technical knowledge. The only negative thing about this is time, as there was a heavy load and the course took longer than the rest of the courses during the semester, as it required working
more hours for me. But if that is what it takes to acquire skills and creativity in what we work, then I am very satisfied with that. Overall, for me the course was a mixture of all the feelings mentioned in the question.
