1 Discussion Thread: Curriculum Evaluation EDUC 671_D05 Curriculum evaluation has consistently been part of academic preparation and has aided in developing teaching pedagogies. Curriculum evolution use of assessment for learning is integral in creating triumphant school systems (Khan et al., 2019). There are two critical types of assessment that schools refer to formative assessment and summative assessment, and both contribute to the education system. (Bartlett et al., 2015, p. 1) The objective of formative assessments is to observe students’ understanding and provide continuous feedback that educators can use to enhance their teaching and aid in students improving their learning. More specifically, formative assessments are essential to learning because they activate learners’ understanding during the task. In contrast, summative assessment aims to assess student learning at the end of an instructional task by analogizing it against the education standard or model. Summative assessments are often heightened stakes, meaning they have a high point value. Examples of summative assessments include “Curriculum evolution often considers the comprehensive ability of the student group, so it is inevitable to make choices in some subtleties” (Sun et al., 2022). Communicating learning outcomes within a lesson with students is essential to their learning process. Learning becomes successful when students see the bigger image and how they will achieve the subsequent steps to be more engaged with the learning process. Professionally, both administration and educators should actively participate in curriculum evaluation. In the book of Genesis, God emphasized data monitoring and evaluation as essential components of his performance as he accomplished outcomes and objectives. The book of Genesis summarizes the results of creation (Genesis 1:28-31) and the actions required to execute those outcomes (Genesis 1:1-27). As an Education Coordinator, my responsibilities rely heavily
2 on developing curriculum, training teachers, and monitoring data and evaluation outcomes. I use curriculum evolution to differentiate learning objectives, provide support and assistance, and develop and deliver impactful educational materials. References Khan, R.
