The VIN is made up of seventeen characters and contain all pertinent information about
the vehicle: country manufactured, division, feature of the vehicle (body style) model year
and plant the vehicle was assembled in.
2. List at least five things that should be checked while inspecting a vehicle's battery.
Visually inspect the battery cover and case for dirt and grease, Check the electrolyte level,
Inspect the battery for cracks, loose terminal posts, and other signs of damage, Check for
missing cell plug covers and caps, Inspect all cables for broken or corroded wires
3. List five different types of oil rating systems.
SA, SB, SC, SD and SE
4. Why should you wipe off the outside of a zerk fitting before injecting grease into it?
To prevent contaminates in the fitting
5. How does a technician determine the proper inflation for a vehicle's tires?
Use a pressure gauge to check inflation. Correct the tire pressure listed in the vehicle's
owner's manual or on a decal stuck on the driver's doorjamb.
7.Which of the following greases are best suited for lubricating automotive wheel bearings?
d) GC
8. What engine oil viscosity is best suited for use in a hybrid electric vehicle?
a) 0W-20
9. When presenting a repair estimate to a customer, what should be included in the estimate?
c) the total cost of the repair parts and shop labour
12.Which of the following VINs would represent a 2020 Canadian-made Dodge vehicle?

Question 2
You are a biomedical engineer working for a small orthopaedic firm that fabricates rectangular shaped fracture
fixation plates from titanium alloy (model = "Ti Fix-It") materials. A recent clinical report documents some problems with the plates
implanted into fractured limbs. Specifically, some plates have become permanently bent while patients are in rehab and doing partial
weight bearing activities.
Your boss asks you to review the technical report that was generated by the previous test engineer (whose job you now have!) and used to
verify the design. The brief report states the following... "Ti Fix-It plates were manufactured from Ti-6Al-4V (grade 5) and machined into
solid 150 mm long beams with a 4 mm thick and 15 mm wide cross section. Each Ti Fix-It plate was loaded in equilibrium in a 4-point bending
test (set-up configuration is provided in drawing below), with an applied load of 1000N. The maximum stress in this set-up was less than the
yield stress for the…
