So far, what have you learned regarding potential accident factors other than just noting the location of airfield structures, lighting, land features, the debris field, and key aircraft components? Hello class, My plan to enter and analyze the accident site involves determining what has happened so far, establishing safety rules, taking photographs, preserving the perishable evidence if any, and performing a generalized inventory of the aircraft while simultaneously building a site map of the accident and debris field. What we know so far is that there was an incident with Peak 1680 that resulted in an aircraft overshooting runway 4R and impacting a lighting system at the end of the runway. Next, we will establish safety rules by identifying safety hazards and establishing personal protective equipment requirements to reduce possible injury to myself or other investigators. We will now perform a generalized inventory of the aircraft while simultaneously building a site map of the accident and debris field. From this data, we will see that the large parts of the aircraft are accounted for including the fuselage(front and rear halves), both engines, all 3 landing gears, both wings, both stabilizers, and the rudder are accounted for. Please see the diagram below. It appears that the accident site is consolidated into a localized area. So far, we have learned that from the location of the aircraft components how close together they are and their correlation to the short distance from the runway, the aircraft impacted low velocity, low angle. This is evident because the wreckage is close together, the aircraft is mostly intact, and the lack of a smoking hole are key indicators. We can also see that there are drag marks and downed fences leading to the crash site. Consistent with
the witness's testimony that the aircraft slid off the runway. See the below image. There is also evidence of the aircraft impacting a lighting system resulting in the aircraft fuselage being ripped into two pieces. The marks on the ground and the impact site suggest that the aircraft was unable to stop on the runway. This will be a key factor in determining the cause of the accident.
