As we learned with the ISTE Student Standards, the  VERBS MATTER!  Such is the case for the ISTE Educator Standards. The list of 7 items found below the Learner Standard indicators on  page 7  provide details of what is meant by the verbs in the indicators. These items for each Standard will help you think more deeply about the artifacts you choose to submit for the portfolio project. Read through these 7 items. Which of these 7 descriptions are you currently applying in your practice? Which areas might be growth areas for you? I would say that I am currently using creating and actively participating in, student learning outcomes and explore and apply. These items come in handy when I'm substituting. During my substitute positions, I use these items to focus on student objectives and ensure that instructional activities correspond with objectives, ensuring that students receive the knowledge and skills that they should have at the end of a lesson. These items are also used when I have students work in groups for collaborative discussion. Finally, I use these items when I learn about a new tool, investigate it, and then incorporate it into instruction, and sometimes even with the use of techniques and technology. I think that pedagogical approaches made possible by technology, local and global networks, staying current with research, and learning science are areas where I may improve.
