Specifications subject to change without notice. NUMBER: 2.5C/100 ISSUED: June 1977 REVISED: PRODUCT: Centaur MODEL(S): Generator Specifics: GS 3000 (Continuous Duty and Standby) with Turbohydraulic Start Systems SUBJECT: HYDRAULIC START PUMP FLOODING KIT Type of Change: Product Improvement Recommended Compliance: Earliest Convenience Purpose: To announce availability of, and provide installation instructions for, a kit for revising hydraulic start pump drain. GENERAL INFORMATION: A standby Centaur generator set experienced a fail-to-start condition on the first start attempt after a prolonged period of shutdown. This condition was caused by the inability of the turbohydraulic start system to crank the engine to 15% speed within a 15 second time limit imposed by the crank fail malfunction circuit. This excessive crank time was the result of a loss of prime at the hydraulic pump when oil from the suction line drained back to the oil tank, requiring an additional 5 to 11 seconds to purge the line and prime the pump before the engine would crank. This condition has been corrected by removing the case drain line from the side port of the hydraulic pump and installing a metaflex hose routed above the pump, thereby keeping the pump flooded and primed. PARTS REQUIRED: Kit, Hydraulic Start Pump Flooding; Part Number 122188-102. MODIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS (SEE FIGURE 1): 1. With engine shut down, open circuit breaker CB501 to prevent inadvertent starting, or operation of the hydraulic pump gas turbine driver. 2. Remove and discard flexible hose drain line (and O-Rings) connecting pump side port to drain elbow 24127R1. 3. Install replacement hose assembly 910867C1, and connect to elbow 24127R1 at skid and union 24038R1 at pump side port, positioned as shown in Figure 1. 4. Using a backup wrench at hose terminations, to avoid twisting the hose and introducing a stress, tighten hose connections to 27 to 33 lbf/ft (3. 726 to 4.554 kgf/m) torque. 5. Install hose clamps 279026R91 as shown in Figure 1, to secure hose to rigid line. Page 2 of 3 SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER: 2.5C/100
