Specifications subject to change without notice. NUMBER: 2.0/101 ISSUED: September 1981 REVISED: PRODUCT: Centaur MODEL(S): All Specifics: Units with hydraulic start system SUBJECT: REINFORCED ELBOWS FOR HYDRAULIC START SYSTEM Type of Change: Product Reliability Recommended Compliance: Earliest Convenience Purpose: To announce the availability of reinforced elbows for the Centaur hydraulic start system and provide installation instructions. GENERAL INFORMATION: Hairline cracks have developed in the flanges of elbows in the hydraulic start system, usually after removal/reinstallation of hydraulic motor and pump. This was attributed to slight misalignment af- ter reinstallation. Solar is now offering reinforced elbows for replacement as shown in the following "parts required" table. PARTS REQUIRED: Solar also recommends purchase of the applicable O-ring. These parts can be obtained by contact- ing the nearest Solar District Office. SERVICE BULLETIN Page 1 of 6 NUMBER: 2.0/101

PROCEDURES: Refer to Figure 1, Figure 2, and Figure 3 to determine the applicable system and proceed as follows: 1. Shut down unit and open circuit breakers. 2. Turn master select switch to "off" and tag with "Do Not Operate" tag. 3. Disconnect existing piping supports and hardware. Retain for reinstallation. 4. Remove bolts on all split flanges. 5. Disconnect piping at the lowest point and drain oil. 6. Remove pipes and fittings. Discard elbows (Items 1, 2, and 3). Cap remaining fittings and pipes, store in a clean area for reinstallation. 7. Assemble the entire line run with the replacement elbows and new O-rings. All fittings to be finger tight. NOTE Do not reinstall supports at this step. 8. At the hydraulic pump, tighten the first fitting to the required torque (400-325 lb/in). 9. At the hydraulic motor end, tighten the first fitting to the required torque (400-325 lb/in). 10. Tighten the second fitting at the pump end to 850-800 lb/in. 11. Tighten the second fitting at the motor end to 850-800 lb/in. 12. Alternately tighten all remaining fittings in this manner to 850-800 lb/in. until reaching the last block in the center. Page 2 of 6 SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER: 2.0/101
13. Remove the finger tight bolts from one side of the center block and check the relative motion of the pipe to the block. Eccentricity should be no more than 1/2 in. radially in any direction. 14. If eccentricity is less than 1/2 in., tighten the last block to 850-800 lb/in. 15. Reinstall supports and hardware removed in step 3. 16. Restore system to normal, start engine and check for leaks.
