Math 133 – Lab 6 Question 4 Do the players with the most career points in the NHL tend to have the most games played? I found data from the website https://www.quanthockey.com/nhl/records/nhl-players- all-time-points-leaders.html This shows the top 50 players with the most points along with more specific statistics including the number of games played which are the two data values I needed to complete the plots of information. I used Matlab to import the data values and then plot the points on a graph to show how many points each player got compared to the number of games they played. The observations that I made from my analysis were that the players with the most points do tend to have more games played but were not always completely consistent. Usually, if you play more games, you will have a better chance of getting more points, but it also does depend on the skill level of the player. For example, Wayne Gretzky (who is the point on the far right) has the most points in NHL history but has just under 1,500 games played which shows that it does not completely depend on how many games you play to obtain the most points.
MATLAB code data = readmatrix( 'NHL Top Scorers vs Games Played.xlsx' ); x = data(:,1); y = data(:,2); plot(x,y, '.' ) title( 'NHL Top Scorers compared to Games Played' ) xlabel( 'Total Points' ) ylabel( 'Total Games Played' )
