Clinical Field Experience D: Intervention Implementation Tamla South Grand Canyon University SPD-570: Methods of Teaching Math to Students with Mild to Moderate Disabilities Dr. Christine Georgallis September 14, 2022 1
Intervention Mathematics is the basis of the world today. Understanding math is more than just counting and adding numbers. Studies have shown that many students lack the basic skills in map. Many students are at least two years behind in their math learning. Therefore, to provide them structure and the ability to perform at grade level we have map interventions. Math interventions are ways two bills through the skills to fill the gap in the students learning. Math interventions come on several levels and have many different strategies to meet the differentiated learning styles of students. No student is on the same level so that interventions must match the students need. The implementation of bell interventions has allowed students to move up grade levels and function at their current grade level to build quality concepts of mathematics. Students Needs & Intervention Selected The students chose it for these intervention strategies we are students who were identified as being two grade levels behind. The students were missing basic concepts but were able to make it along with the help of their peers in the classroom. That is why the two strategies that were chosen were peer tutoring and fluency. These strategies will help the student to build the missing gaps in understanding basic math concept that are usually used to build on for more advanced math skills. The pier tooling works in two ways because students love to be able to converse with other students in the classroom while working this will allow them to collaborate along with their peers to understand math concepts. Math Activities Implementing the strategies to the students was extremely easy. The students were happy to be working in groups and open about the introduction of the strategies. The floor is techniques were not simply basic flash cards but was put together as a game they also assess the student 2
speed, and they were able to laugh and have an enjoyable time. The students that were stronger in the group help coach the student through the different activities as working is their peer monitor in the group. The students worked together and supported each other very well. Intervention Strategies at Home The fluency activity also comes in a computer app form that the students can use on their digital device. The students have a login that they could use at home to practice their fat fluency through this meth app. The program will already be sick to their level and the student is given so much time to work and practice on different skills that will not affect their fluency and intervention at school but is set for home. The program provides them a guidance to master the skills and their main intervention goals set for school. The diagnostic tests identifies their weaknesses, so the program is catered to their needs. It can be used on any device that is Internet base. Future Practices In my future practice I must make sure that the individuals that I am setting for my students are intentional for their needs. We cannot just pull busy work from various places and expect to see growth but what we must do is make sure that the interventions that we are providing for our students or specific to the area of need for each student. We had to make sure that each group is working actively toward each one of these goals with the support of the educator. I will remember that nothing is set in stone if it is not working, we could just try again. 3
