Lesson Plan #1 Date: January 23, 2017 Time: 2:45 – 3:45 p.m. Subject Area: Math → Basic multiplication facts Goal/Outcome: To identify and reinforce the multiplication facts that she has previously learned. Through various multiplication activities she will demonstrate her current knowledge of multiplication facts. Janie will play an educational game to demonstrate her ability to recall basic multiplication facts. Behavioural Objective(s): Janie will identify previously learned multiplication facts (0 to 9) with 80% accuracy. Materials/Resources: Assessment Form (multiplication chart) Pencil Multiplication Squares Game board 2 different colored markers/leads 2 dice Instructional Environment: IRT Classroom Procedure: To begin today’s lesson I wanted to see Janie’s knowledge of the basic multiplication facts. I used a blank multiplication table with the facts from 0-9 to see how many see knew my heart, which ones she needed to use strategies for and which strategies she was using. The first couple of facts I read out loud to her to ensure that she understood how to read/use the chart. She then continued on her own. This assessment will allow me to see how Janie is doing with her multiplication facts. INSERT PICTURE Once the assessment is completed Janie will play the Multiplication Squares game. This game will require the game board, 2 two dice, and 2 different colored markers (one for each player). Janie will roll the two dice together then multiplies
the two numbers showing on the dice. She will say the multiplication sentence out loud, she will then look for the product on the board and will draw a line to connect any two dots that form part of the square around that product. Since each product appears multiple times on the board, the player can be very strategic about where he/she draws a line. Then I will do the same. When a player draws a line that closes a square, that player gets to color in the square with his/her marker. That player rolls the dice again and takes another turn. When all of the dots have been connected, the player with the most squares colored in wins! http://games4gains.com/blogs/teaching-ideas/multiplication-squares-game INSERT PICTURE Evaluation: The multiplication table that Janie completed during the lesson will be used as an evaluation. The information obtained through that assessment will help steer the remainder of the lessons. Direct observations, and anecdotal notes will also be used during the progress of the lesson.
