Clinical Field Experience C: Assessing Skills Sheondra Dotson Grand Canyon University ECE 575 Professor Breanne Clark December 13, 2023 Part 1: Literacy Assessments and Student Reading Profile
Student Name: Terell Grade: 2nd Grade Name of Assessment 1: i-Ready Passage Reading Summary of Data: The student receives a passage from Mrs. Walker. She will then give Terrell instructions. He has one minute to read the passage from left to right. Reading Strengths: Terell is able to read high-frequency words from left to right using his finger. Reading Areas for growth: Terell will need to learn how to pronounce some high-frequency words. Reading Goals: Terell will be able to read fluently by the end of the school year. Name of Assessment 2: i-Ready Pseudo Words Summary of Data: Mrs. Walker provides Terrell with the student form sheet of pseudo words. Mrs. Walker will provide Terrell with some directions. She will allow Terrell to do a practice before timing him. After, Terrell has one minute to say as many words from left to right. Reading Strengths: Terrell is able to read most words in the first row. Reading Areas for growth: Terrell will frequently say the sounds in the word, blend it, and then say the word rather than reading the word fluently. Reading Goals: Terrell will be able to say the words without support. Part 2: Reflection
Based on what we know about Terrell, he excels at identifying most of his sight words. I was shown self-evaluations that Mrs. Walker created for him in the areas of sight words and reading fluently. She created this to help keep progress of his learning and what she needs to implement to help him reach his goals she has set for him. I love how Mrs. Walker set goals for her students because it motivates them to want to succeed in the areas they are struggling with. Because of this, I do believe Terrell will be able to identify all of his sight words by the end of the school year. Mrs. Walker and I discussed how important it is for her students to know their sight words because this is what helps them read fluently. I do agree with her because I feel it plays a major role in a student's reading ability.
