How has social media marketing helped and hurt businesses with customer communications? Social media has changed the way we communicate with customers. Instead of going to the store or writing an email, calling many people prefer to communicate via social media. It can be an extremely helpful tool, companies have the ability these days to route support tickets via social media. At times social media can be a quicker way of communicating. On the other hand social media has and it can hurt businesses, customers use social media to provide both positive and negative feedback about products and service. People can be influenced by reviews. What companies stand out to you as examples of being hurt or helped by their SMM efforts? The one company that stands out currently is Peloton, they missed a huge brand opportunity by releasing a pretty sexist ad according to many. But they utilized the bad publicity and social media and turned it around. Currently their spin bikes are on backorder. Another company that I think has done a great job is Uber, they offer incentives to riders for an exchange for social media share. They share codes using social media to get free rides. How has SMM helped you in gaining information about a product or brand? Social media marketing has helped me learn about products or services I’m interested in. Instagram suggest accounts based on my likes and interests I’ve learned about some wonderful products and people that way. What company do you think does social media marketing well? Why? Zappos is a company I think does a good job at social media marking, their entire organization is built around making sure the customer is the primary focus. They utilize Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook very well. They engage with their community. Their posts are personal encouring their customers to share personal stories as well.
How does the message of Colossians 4:6 fit into social media today? Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” Colossians 4:6 (ESV). While utilizing social media we should always have our conversation be full of grace, in truth, when thinking about the seasoned salt we must express with tolerance, thankfulness and always kindness. Not judgment. While we demonstrate kindness, grace, thankfulness to others on social media and in life we demonstrate the grace that God extended to us in Jesus Christ.
