Pop-up advertisements and discount codes in exchange for personal information could be annoying and disruptive for the average user or even a new user since they have been exploited for a number of years (Baadsgaard, 2019). A positive change focusing on protecting the consumer information would be to automatically prompt a user during the creation
of their profile on preferences. This would allow the opportunity to leverage emails and pop-up advertisements properly, providing the end user with useful emails and discount codes, in which would feel more like a reward for joining the team. There are several companies that utilize this strategy such as Reddit and Morning Brew, you select your interest on the first day of signing up, so any pop-up or email is tailored to what your interest is centered around. Enhancing the e-commerce experience is the best approach to increase the efficacy of a website, either mobile or on a desktop, similarly to how Instagram revolutionized marketing.
